    Job Description Summary

    The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor - Environmental Systems.

    This position will be a nine-month, tenure-track position with 60% research and a 40% teaching appointment. The projected start date is August 2024.

    Responsibilities:
    The successful candidate will be expected to develop a dynamic, impactful, and innovative research program focused on understanding and managing problems arising from land management practices that affect surface waters, particularly reservoirs. The successful candidate will work with federal, regional, and state agencies that address aquatic issues. The candidate will use innovative technologies in any of a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to biogeochemistry, ecohydrology, ecology, or remote sensing, to study the impact of land use on water quality. Teaching responsibilities are 9-10 hours of course credit per academic year, including an introductory level course in environmental science, an upper-level course 'Reservoirs and Land Use' or 'Biogeochemical Processes', and a graduate-level course related to their expertise. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to train graduate students in environmental science. As a member of the College of Agriculture and the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, this person in this position will also participate in service and outreach activities.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Minimum qualifications include a Ph.
    D.

    from an accredited institution in biogeochemistry, earth systems, environmental sciences, aquatic sciences, ecohydrology, or similar related fields at the time employment begins.

    Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research in environmental systems resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required.

    Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program.

    The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences and connect with students.

    The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the term of employment.

    Desired Qualifications

    Desired candidate would have experience related to water quality dynamics in reservoirs and other surfaces waters receiving runoff from agricultural and urban landscapes.
