    HJF is seeking a highly motivated

    Biomedical Engineer I or II

    to support the Extremity Trauma & Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE). HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the EACE.

    The EACE is a one-of-a-kind organization, consisting of teams of researchers embedded at the point of care within multiple Military Treatment Facilities across the nation.

    In line with the congressionally directed mission of the EACE, the research efforts undertaken focus on the mitigation, treatment, and rehabilitation of traumatic extremity injuries and amputations with a specific focus on translating findings into clinical practice to improve the care of injured Service members and Veterans.

    This position will support ongoing research activities within the EACE portfolio at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

    Note, US Citizenship and a personnel security background investigation are required.
    Responsibilities

    Level I
    Assists and supports other EACE team members with all of the activities outlined in Level II under supervision.
    Level II

    In terviews potential participants for research protocols, validates eligibility to participate, and evaluates commitment. Educates participants about the research protocol, their roles in the protocols, and any other vital information. Serves as a resource for the participants.

    Responsible for conducting laboratory research with devices such as force platforms, motion capture cameras, instrumented treadmills, dynamometers, electromyography, metabolics, and wearable technologies (e.g., inertial measurement units).

    Install, adjust, calibrate, maintain, repair, or provide technical support for such instrumentation and equipment.
    Assists with the maintenance of regulatory documentation. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.
    Collect, interpret, and analyze biomechanical data and video, using data acquisition, signal processing, and statistical techniques.
    Conduct training to educate the research team and other collaborating personnel on proper use of equipment.

    Write documents such as test plans, protocols, policies, standards of use, maintenance and repair of medical, research, and engineering equipment.

    Contribute to the preparation of abstracts for professional conferences, manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and development of research proposals.

    May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


    Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering (biomechanics coursework or experience is desirable); human participants research training is desirable; statistics and signal processing; programming and algorithm development; knowledge and familiarity with military is desirable.
