    Job Description

    Welding procedures: Shielded Metal-Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Metal-Arc Welding (GMAW)

    Basic Function:

    Performs all types of welding and brazing using gas and electric welding equipment, MIG & Stick welding, and performs metal cutting, as required, using gas operated equipment. Assignments include new equipment and repair of customer owned equipment.

    Typical Duties:

    1. Reads engineering drawings and plans work procedure, required tools, fixtures, and materials.
    2. Performs metal cutting, if required, to produce needed parts if not available in stores, and to dismantle assemblies for repair.
    3. Prepares surfaces to be welded, sets-up assemblies and tack-weld in place.
    4. Build-up or repair worn or defective surfaces, as required.
    5. Determines best procedure and welds assemblies in accordance with AWS standards, including requirements for preheat, post-heat, and controlled cooling.
    6. Cleans and inspects weld for conformance to specifications.
    7. Moves completed and conforming work to next work center or holding area.

    Other Duties:

    1. May be assigned to building maintenance, repair, or other metal fabrication projects, as needed.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    Completes required documentation or data entry.

    1. Cleans, adjust and maintains equipment, as required, for maximum performance.
    2. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
    3. Observes all rules for personnel safety and all public laws or regulations for protection of the environment.
    4. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    1. Completion of formal training or apprenticeship program, or an equivalent level of preparedness gained through hands-on experience.
    2. Certification or capable of passing certification tests requirements sanctioned by the American Welding Society (AWS).
    3. Physically able to bend, stoop, lift and position materials of moderate weight.
    4. Willingness to work hours (including overtime) or shift assigned.
