- Safely operate the vehicle and complete a company driving course.
- Safely operate the wheelchair lift device, stretcher and assist ambulatory patients.
- Properly secure the patient and belongings in the vehicle for transport.
- Read, understand and utilize the map book provided.
- Neatly, legibly and accurately document each transport.
- May be required to assist a patient from a chair or bed to a wheelchair.
- Must be able to lift a wheelchair or patient belongings as necessary
- Must complete a first aid course and maintain CPR certification.
- Recognize patient conditions that are not appropriate for transport in a non-medical transport van.
- Operate and communicate on the radio system.
- Fuel and clean the vehicle as necessary, at least once per shift.
- Assure proper delivery of patient and belongings to receiving facility/person/residence.

JOB TASKPOTENTIAL RISKSPREVENTIVE MEASURESVEHICLE OPERATIONS
Bodily injuries from vehicle contacts; strains from extended periods of driving. Motor vehicle accidents causing bodily injuries, serious injury or death. Hazard of unsecured articles in vehicles.Valid driver's license. Valid MVR that meets company standards outlined in HR policy. Emergency operators must complete mandatory vehicle operation training. Vehicle should be in good condition and well maintained; Seat belt will be worn for driver and passengers (when applicable); Defensive driving at all times; Use sirens when emergency lights are engaged; Driver will be rested and alert; NO CELL PHONE USE WHILE DRIVING; Route to be planned in advance with assistance from technician (when applicable); Park so that first move is forward (i.e., back into space or allow room for driving forward); Monitor and follow applicable laws and training for road, environmental and construction zones; passengers seat-belted (when applicable); All materials being transported should be secured to be best of your ability. Policies mandating maximum speed; Utilize a spotter when backing when available; make certain you do a walk around before backing a unit without a spotter; Do not disengage the back-up alarm; Height clearance decal located on the upper left corner of the windshield; Adjustable mirrors and seat; Monitoring devices installed in all fleet/support vehicles.HAZARDOUS MATERIALS EXPOSURE RELATING TO SOME SCENE CALLSExposure to skin/mucous membranes/respiratory irritation due to contact/splashing of/ inhalation of hazardous materials.Utilize PPE as trained and required dependent on level/type of hazard. Clean/disinfect equipment as required by manufacturer guidelines. Refer to DOT Emergency Response Guide (ERG) handbook for placard identification. Follow incident command instructions.BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN EXPOSURE RISKDisease transmission risk when exposed to body fluids by contact/ splashing/respiratoryPractice good hygiene habits; Utilize provided PPE as required by policy and CDC based on known or potential risk. Gloves are required, at a minimum, for all patient encounters. Never recap needle; utilize needleless system; immediately place used sharps in approved disposal containers; Complete annual required training.CLEAN/DISINFECT EQUIPMENT/STATIONSExposure to skin/mucous membranes due to contact or splashing.Follow manufacturer guidelines. Utilize provided PPE. Complete the Hazard Communication training and any additional identified training. Refer to SDS located in Ninth Brain.FUEL UNITSExposure to skin/mucous membranes due to contact or splashing.Turn off engine. Never fuel near open flame. Replace fuel cap once fueling process is complete. Use caution while fueling to keep face away from nozzle; Do not use phone while fueling; Complete fueling training.HOSTILE HUMANSInjuries can occur from encountering hostile persons.Staging procedures; complete annual workplace violence on diffusing hostile situations; mental health procedures/policies; sign up for additional training if needed or identified.STRETCHER/COT USESprains/strains/fractures can occur with improper use.Inspect stretcher/cot for integrity. Complete stretcher/cot use training during orientation. Call communications for lift assist. Load/Unload as required by policy and procedure. Recognize weight limit. Keep stretcher in low position while traversing uneven terrain.PATIENT MOVEMENTSprains/strains/fractures can occur during lateral, up/down movementComplete patient movement orientation training. Utilize proper body mechanics. Know weight limit and ask for assistance. Utilize patient movement assist devices when available.TRAVERSING TERRAINS/STEPS/STAIRSFalls/trips/slips can occur causing bodily injury.Wear approved footwear that is in good condition. Keep shoe laces/zippers tied/zipped at all times while wearing the footwear. Utilize proper body mechanics. Use extreme caution at all times with special attention to wet, icy or uneven surfaces.EXPOSURE TO ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSStrains/sprains/fractures can occur falling in/out of vehicle while on level or uneven terrain.Use three-point contact when entering and exiting a vehicle; Wear approved footwear that is in good condition; Keep shoe laces/zippers tied/zipped at all times while wearing the footwear; Use caution on running boards/rear bumpers that may be slippery due to being wet/icy.ENTERING/EXITING VEHICLESInjuries can occur falling out of vehicles.Place vehicle for optimal safety; use three-point contact for entering/exiting vehicle; use running board/bumper, when available. ROADWAY EVENTSInjuries can occur if struck by moving vehicles due to lack of visibility.Place vehicle for optimal safety; Wear issued reflective ANSI safety vest. MATERIALS/COMBUSTIBLES STORAGEStaff could sustain injuries from smoke/flame if unit catches fire.Fire extinguishers accessible/checked monthly; no unnecessary debris stored in trash cans/floors/cab if unit; good housekeeping skills practiced by staff. Pull over safely and extricate yourself and all passengers/patients safely.EXPOSURE TO INSECTS/ANIMALSBites/stings can cause injury/allergic reactions.Request pets/animals are sequestered before entering/exiting a scene; Carry prophylactic antihistamines for known allergies.DEFIBRILLATION / AED / CARDIOVERSIONShock can occur causing burns/internal injuries.Ensure proper pad placement; all personnel are clear and not touching patient or equipment before applying defibrillation/AED/Cardioversion. VISITING LOGISTICS WAREHOUSE OR FLEET SERVICES SHOPGetting hit by a pallet jack. Slips/trips falls on unclean surfaces. Eye injuries due to the presence of welding being performed or from flying objects. Inhalation injuries or chemical burns due to hazardous materials being used or transported. Injuries to hearing due to high noise levels.Must wear PPE such safety glasses, respirators when required and ear protection when required, while visiting the shop.
