Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution.
DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) leads the Green Infrastructure Program through which the City is implementing various nature-based stormwater management solutions such as rain gardens, green and blue roofs, porous pavement, subsurface systems, and other innovative stormwater management technologies.
These stormwater management practices absorb stormwater before it enters the sewer system and help to improve the water quality of local waterways and can also reduce localized flooding.
BEPA staff are involved in all stages of the Green Infrastructure Program including urban planning, engineering design, project management, construction oversight, operations and maintenance, research and development, as well as enforcement of regulations.
Under supervision, the selected candidate will support BEPA staff on various facets of stormwater management projects ranging from desktop analytical studies, inspecting green infrastructure sites, and installing monitoring sensors to support research and planning for the bureau.
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
