    About us:
    Alden Realty Services, Inc. (ARS) is a property management company for affordable independent living communities throughout the Chicagoland area. Since 1990, ARS has co-developed and continues to manage 15 properties that provide housing to over 1,000 seniors. We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance to oversee the Finance team and the ARS portfolio.


    Job Description:
    The Director will be responsible for improving finance processes to promote consistency, accuracy, and accountability.

    The Director of Finance position is accountable for the accounting operations of the agency and related entities including the production of periodic financial reports; maintenance of accounting records; and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the agency's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

    Also, to drive improvements to financial performance, the Director will be tasked with analyzing, identifying, and solving financial opportunities that may be present.

    This position requires experience managing a finance and accounting team. The Director will work closely with ARS's Leadership Team.

    Asset Management, Financial Planning and Analysis:

    Develop and oversee the company's financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial modeling. Analyze financial performance against key metrics and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.

    Supervise and coordinate all aspects of agency accounting systems including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.


    Financial Reporting:
    Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, and communicate financial results to stakeholders.


    Cash Management:
    Manage the company's cash flow, liquidity, and capital structure. Oversee banking relationships, optimize working capital, and develop strategies for funding operational needs and long-term growth initiatives.


    Risk Management:
    Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks facing the company, such as market risks, credit risks, and operational risks. Implement risk management policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and optimize risk-return trade-offs.


    Financial Controls:
    Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and prevent fraud and financial misstatements. Conduct periodic audits and reviews to assess the effectiveness of internal controls.


    Tax Planning and Compliance:
    Develop tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position while ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. Coordinate with tax advisors and oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns. Oversee the annual audits including the consolidation process of all related entities.


    Financial Systems and Processes:
    Evaluate and optimize financial systems, processes, and workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Implement technology solutions to streamline financial operations and improve data visibility and analysis.


    Leadership and Team Development:
    Lead and develop a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance department.

    Qualifications and Competency Requirements:
    Experience and Education

    ·

    Bachelor's degree in related field. CPA preferred.

    ·

    A minimum of 5-8 years of financial management experience

    ·

    5+ years of supervisory experience

    ·

    Previous Real Estate or Property/Investment Management experience required.

    ·

    Thorough understanding of accounting principles

    ·

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    ·

    Knowledge of accounting practices associated with non-profits and Low Income Housing Tax Credits preferred

    Computer Skills

    ·

    Proficient in computer systems related to payroll, general ledger, budgeting, and general office functions

    ·

    Proficiency with applications including Yardi, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
