    Description

    Summary

    The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Interventional Radiography) works within the Diagnostic Imaging Service at the Greater Los Angeles Veteran's Health Administration (VHA). Incumbent performs as a fully functional diagnostic radiologic technologist at the master level with the specialization of an Angiography/ Interventional Radiography.

    Duties

    Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Performs neuroangiography, including spine, head and neck studies utilizing highly sophisticated x-ray equipment such as computerized fluoroscopy, pressure injectors, biplane imaging, patient monitors, etc.
  • Performs peripheral and visceral angiography of the abdominal systems and extremities.
  • Performs most exams utilizing surgical sterile techniques.
  • Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques with emphasis on sterile technique; the storage of sterile supplies; the disposal of body fluids and sharps; proper attire; hand washing practices; and continuing education.
  • Works with the radiologist as a member of the team.
  • Assist and anticipate the needs of the radiologist and the performance of the exam.
  • Gathers relevant information from the medical record, significant others and health care providers relating to patient's medical condition.
  • Trains new technologist and radiology students in digital angiography, venograms, myelograms, percutaneous nephrostomy, and other special procedures.
  • Performs image reconstructions and advanced workstations as directed by the radiologist or as part of a given study.
  • Responsible for the intravenous injection of contrast media.
  • Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions, and shields patients and appropriate.
  • Operates a wide variety of computerized equipment such as Computed Radiography (CR), Direct Digital Radiography (DR), ultrasound unite, etc.
  • Responsible for re-stocking of all angiography supplies and related materials in Angio suites on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting usage of supplies and reporting to Lead Technologist for inventory and ordering purposes.
  • Performs irregular hour emergency scans on standby, 24 hours per day coverage.
