    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are seeking an R&D Mechanical Engineer/Space Systems to join our Product Engineering team. Our team provides the competencies necessary for harnessing and developing the world's best technologies, practices, and suppliers for realizing advanced remote sensing systems. Join us to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges

    This position will focus on mechanical design for an optical based system and requires understanding of the product realization process for space-based hardware. This includes fabrication and assembly, interpreting and translating mechanical/optical concepts into opto-mechanical designs and fabricated hardware, and documentation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to become involved in a high visibility program area that manages the full range of remote sensing space system payloads and ground system software. Improved design, development, realization, and quality are all major thrusts of our program.

    On any given day, you may be called on to:
    • Provide mechanical designs, analysis, assembly, and test components needed for remote sensing hardware.
    • Provide mechanical component engineering responsibilities with procurements, inspection, and verification for parts.
    • Evaluate proposed design changes or new technology insertions for future capabilities needed by our nation.
    • Interface with both staff and technologists to resolve technical issues and challenges.
    • Evaluate and debug non-conformances to determine root cause and define needed improvements and create an actionable plan.

      Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
    Qualifications We Require:
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, mechanical technology or other relevant STEM field with at least one year of product development and/or product realization experience of complex mechanical systems.
    • Experience with assembly, integration, and testing of complex mechanical components.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
    Qualifications We Desire:
    • Active/Current DOE Q clearance.
    • Experience in a flight quality payload integration and test environments.
    • Design experience with CREO or other MCAD tools for components or test fixtures.
    • Component engineering experience with procurements, inspections, and review of data packages.
    • Experience with test plans and procedures, work instructions and process flow travelers.
    • Demonstrated engineering intuition, critical thinking and comfort with ambiguity.
    • Ability to generate and follow work instructions for mechanical assemblies and builds.
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a diverse team
    About Our Team:

    The Product Engineering Group consists of electrical, mechanical, and material component engineering staff and technologists. We interface with many organizations and facilitate the design, qualification, and production of the next generation of satellite system payloads.

    The RSS Group leads and implements the design, fabrication, integration, testing, and delivery of the Global Burst Detection (GBD) Program Satellite Payloads. We provide a broad competency base of needed skill sets for the development of advanced satellite payloads, nuclear deterrence (ND) support needs, and other work for others (WFO) programs. We can use our unique capabilities and team with others to provide end-to-end program needs. Embedded within the group are strengths in mechanical engineering, analog/digital design, embedded electronic design, software design, electronic fabrication and testing, optical science and design, power systems, test and integration utilizing space environmental for space-based systems.
