    Description

    Summary

    The Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Nurse Educator, Simulation/Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI), collaborates with multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of an effective education program including orientation, continuing education, in-services, interdisciplinary learning, and drills that are simulation and non-simulation based.

    Duties

    The Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Nurse Educator, Simulation/Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI), demonstrates leadership and creative approaches to management of nursing staff development and education utilizing the principles of adult learning and evidenced-based practice.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS)/Basic Life Support (BLS) Program Coordinator, and provides oversite and coordination, providing weekly and monthly reports, and conducting quarterly mock codes.
  • Responsible for the development and coordination of a comprehensive interdisciplinary education plan for clinical and non-clinical personnel in order to assure ongoing competency as well as workforce adaption to changing knowledge and technology.
  • Incorporates existing and new practice, quality, safety and regulatory standards into education that aligns with the organization/unit culture to improve knowledge and skills necessary for patient care and/or organization development.
  • Responsible for embedding simulation into nurse practice and educational programs such as the RN Transition to Practice Program as well as assisting with multi-discipline trainings.
  • Able to develop and plan simulation scenarios, provide feedback, and recognize stressors contributing to individual, team and system performance to improve patient safety.
  • Able to create measurable learning objectives/outcomes and evaluate success of activities.
  • Must exhibit skills of attention to detail, records management and ability to interpret VHA directives and policies.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, be poised and articulate, exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, with people of varied educational levels and backgrounds.
  • Establishes effective relationships with all Nursing Service personnel and is a role model in demonstrating excellence in practice, serves as a clinical mentor, consults and collaborates in patient care and research, and educates in both formal and informal situations.
  • Responsible for facilitating appropriate orientation and socialization of new staff.
  • Exhibits leadership and active membership on Nursing and Medical Center committees as assigned.
