    The Work You Will Do:
    DEP's Division of Water Resource Management is seeking individual(s) to work as an OPS Environmental Specialist (ES) I.

    The OPS ES I position(s) are both full time (40 hours) and part-time (no more than 28 hours) temporary position(s) working through June 30, 2024.

    These positions are within the Compliance Assurance Program responsible for Wastewater and/or Stormwater Program compliance assistance and inspection activities.

    Program Overview:
    Assist with duties related to the administration of the compliance and enforcement activities within the State's Water Programs.

    The primary duties include providing assistance with compliance activities, compliance evaluation inspections, assistance with drafting appropriate compliance and enforcement documents, and assistance with enforcement case management from discovery of violation to resolution.

    These positions are located in West Palm Beach Florida. West Palm Beach is Palm Beach County's capital city and its cultural center.

    Its active downtown stretches from a scenic pier on the Lake Worth Lagoon to a waterfront Great Lawn, which hosts a weekly green market, outdoor concerts and this season a 35-foot-tall holiday sandcastle.

    Dozens of local beaches provide easy access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.

    It is also a sports enthusiast haven as the Spring Training home of the World Series Champion Washington Nationals and Houston Astros (2017 & 2022) baseball teams.

    Several State and National Parks are in the immediate vicinity.

    Specific Duties of the Position:
    These are entry level OPS environmental specialist positions. Multiple OPS positions may be filled through this advertisement for ES I level work supporting enhanced data accountability and transparency


    through timely and accurate data entry, preparation of inspection reports, performance of quality assurance (QA), database updates, and other tasks that directly support essential programs including but not limited to Wastewater Management; Engineering, Hydrology, and Geology; Water Compliance and Enforcement; NDPES Stormwater; GIS; and Drinking Water.

    OPS position(s) will be assigned to the Division of Water Resource Management's Tallahassee headquarters office.


    These positions also may coordinate with the other sections and program areas in the Department in pursuit of the overall mission.

    Performs other duties as assigned.


    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSAs):
    Accurate and timely entry of required data and system information into agency databases and Oculus.

    Draft basic compliance and enforcement documents.

    Provide outreach and compliance assistance to owners/operators as needed.

    Perform site inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with regulations.

    Review facility monitoring reports for compliance with permit conditions.

    Prepare inspection reports.

    Perform laboratory certifications and calibrations on support equipment.

    Investigate complaints and prepare reports, legal notices, and other documents.

    Maintain and update data systems utilized for program management.

    Assist in the development of grant applications and work plans.

    Review permit applications:
    identify environmental impacts associated with proposed activities; assist in the resolution of environmental issues; draft proposed agency action.

    Evaluate laboratory tests and recommend corrective action.

    Conduct water quality monitoring.

    Perform related work as required

    Skilled at planning, organizing, and coordinating work priorities and managing time efficiently

    Skilled in the use of current forms of electronic communication and data management software and equipment

    Skilled in the use of current personal computers and applications, particularly the entire Microsoft Office Suite

    Skilled in typing reports and information into spreadsheets and electronic documents

    Ability to consistently demonstrate positive and effective teamwork

    Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and utilize problem-solving techniques

    Ability to demonstrate professional and effective written and verbal communication

    Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to assigned projects


    Minimum Qualifications:
    A valid driver license

    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR an associate degree
