    General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider to the US Department of Defense and allied nations, is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join our San Diego team.

    This position is responsible for design and development of DC electric motors and other electro-magnetic products.

    Responsibilities:

    • Designs and develops new brushed and multiphase brushless DC electric motors
    • May work under guidance of a Senior/Principal Engineer
    • Improves existing designs to reduce cost, improve performance or manufacturability
    • Conducts detailed reviews of customer specifications
    • Prepares or directs preparation of product and/or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics
    • Performs design experiments related to motor designs and develops test methods, from concept to planning and execution stage
    • Directs and coordinates manufacturing and testing of prototype products and/or systems
    • Compiles and analyzes operational and test data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products
    • Assist in trouble shooting prototype building and/or production when necessary
    • Develop, release, and revise mechanical drawings and 3D models
    • Conducts motor performance predictions by analyses of actual data and through the development of design related algorithms in addition to the existing methods
    • Maintains project folders with all pertinent information conforming to company procedures throughout the process of prototype building
    • May act as project engineer support on selected projects
    • Designs and develops other magnetic products as needed
    • Interface with customers for as required to support existing products or for new development opportunities

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or applicable science degree
    • Minimum 5-7 years experience in electric motor design and magnetic design or other, related, magnetic products
    • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including circuit analysis and power electronics
    • Knowledge of FEA analytical methods for motor performance modeling and simulation
    • Experience with ANSYS a plus
    • Experience in Aerospace or Defense industry a plus
    • Strong communicator, experience working with non-technical personnel
    • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects
