- Develop, implement, and evaluatethe organizational infection prevention program to include policies andprocedures for surveillance, pandemic preparedness, hand hygiene, standardprecautions, employee and resident infection control education, employee health,outbreak management, and transmission-based precautions.
- Establish routine, ongoing, andsystematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination ofsurveillance date to identify infections, infection risks, communicable diseaseoutbreaks and to maintain or improve resident health status.
- Utilize nationally recognizedsurveillance criteria such as but not limited to CDC's National HealthcareSafety Network (NHSN) or Revised McGeer criteria to track trends and identifyopportunities for improvement based on data analysis.
- Develop an annual surveillanceplan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis ofsurveillance data.
- Evaluate and modify thesurveillance plan and infection prevention policies and procedures no less thanannually and as needed.
- Participates in nationalcollaboratives and external reporting to National Healthcare Network (NHSN)
- Provide infection preventioneducation at time of hire, no less than annually and when lapses in adherenceoccur.
- Acts as subject matter expert andresource within the healthcare center to residents/families, partners,providers, visitors, community, and public health regarding infectionprevention and control measures, including identification of infectious diseaseprocesses.
- Create a process fordemonstrating competencies following each training activity
- Comply with regulatory andmandatory reporting requirements at the local, state and federal levels.
- Maintain current knowledge withCMS, state and federal regulatory agencies and public health guidelines as itrelates to infection prevention.
- Participate in interdisciplinary performanceand quality improvement process.
- Serve as a member of the quality assessmentand assurance committee (QAAC) and report to the committee on the infectionprevention control program on a regular basis
- Participate in thedevelopment/review of occupational health policies and procedures related toinfection prevention and control.
- Reviews the risk of blood borne pathogens,OSHA standards, and exposure control plan to ensure implementation of bestpractice for occupational health to decrease the likelihood of exposures toinfectious diseases.
- Develop (or assist with) ratesand trends of occupational exposures. i.e. needle stick injuries
- Develop (or assist with)immunization and screening programs i.e. Influenza and TB
- Apply work restrictions andrecommendations related to communicable diseases or following an exposureconsistent with CDC and public health guidance.
- Monitor resident care practicesand develop/maintain resident health program.
- Participates in the antibioticstewardship program that includes antibiotic use protocols and a system tomonitor antibiotic use.
- Facility ManagementEnvironmental rounding toobserve infection control and prevention compliance of general maintenance,plumbing/ventilation, food preparation/storage, laundry collection/cleaning,infectious waste collection/disposal, housekeeping/cleaning,disinfection/sanitation, and equipment cleaning
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid registration as a RN/LVN/LPN in the state of practice.
- Completion of relevant state Board of Nursing approved.
