    Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities.     Position Summary:

    The Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of a physician to evaluate and treat patients following athletic injuries, making referrals as appropriate. He/she also assumes administrative duties as delegated by the department manager. In the clinic setting the incumbent functions as a Rehab Tech and DME Specialist.

    Essential Functions (Responsibilities/Accountabilities):

    • Provide athletic training services to local high school/junior high sports, community events and in the clinic hospital setting.
    • Educate athletes, parents, coaching staff and the general public on proper prevention and treatment of athletic injuries. Supervise the selection of, fitting and maintenance of protective equipment for all sports. Assist the coaching staff in development of proper conditioning programs. Counsel athletes, parents and staff on nutrition and hygiene.
    • Supervise the athletic training facility and inspect playing fields for safety. Supervise proper care and use of equipment and supplies.
    • Communicate with team physician/sports medicine supervisor to provide care to athletes throughout the season. Communicate pertinent information to paramedics and physicians and/or primary care providers as necessary. Follow up with injured athletes and provide treatments, reconditioning programs, and monitor return to play. Assist with all matters pertaining to the health and the well-being of athletes. Refer to appropriate discipline when beyond the athletic training scope of practice.
    • Anticipate and prepare to take proper action in emergency situations. Provide on-site injury care and evaluations. Determine appropriate transportation to medical facility if necessary. Follow up evaluations to ensure appropriate treatment and rehabilitation was given for all injuries sustained in the program. Review emergency action plan with coaches and emergency personnel.
    • Communicate with athlete's parents when appropriate. Anytime an athlete is injured to the extent that they are held from game/practice, the athletic trainer should contact the parent to relay this information.
    • Maintain complete and accurate records.
    • Work as a DME specialist, tracking inventory, fitting braces and billing as necessary.
    • Provide quality care in compliance with the NATA Code of Ethics and the department's guidelines.
    • Observe patient confidentiality.

    The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital's goals and objectives.

    Position Requirements:

    · Graduation from an accredited BS degree program in Athletic Training

    · Current ATC licensure in the state of Illinois.

    · CPR/BLS preferred.
