Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position in Maine requiring a ME or compact RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Med/Surg unit with 27 beds
• Patient population includes general medical-surgical cases, total joints, general MS, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel, urology, CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, and patients with addictions
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6 on days and 1:6-7 on nights; tech ratio is 1:10-12
• Shift is 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 12-hour nights
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• No on-call requirements
• Possible floating to ICU for Med/Surg level patients or to ED for task-based support
• Uses Cerner EMR system
• Charge nurse is typically part of staffing assignments
• 24/7 support from respiratory therapy and hospitalist teams
• Centralized telemetry monitoring is provided
• Nurses are expected to attempt IV starts before requesting assistance
• General hospital orientation plus one unit shift is provided
• Holiday coverage for 2 out of 4 holidays may be required
• Professional scrubs of any color are acceptable
• Free parking is available
• First-time travelers are welcome

Requirements

• Active ME or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Willingness to train and serve as Charge RN as needed
• Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), IV antibiotics, and heparin gtts preferred
• No history of permanent employment at any Northern Light Health Hospital
• Must reside more than 100 miles South/Southwest of Bangor, ME (489 State St.) for consideration
• Flu vaccination required, with medical exemptions reviewed and approved by the client
