    Duties

    As an Assistant Director at the GS level, some of your typical work assignments may include:
    • Serves as the primary advisor to the Director on relationships with state, local, and/or tribal law enforcement partners.
    • Mastery knowledge of the management and administration of law enforcement programs; compliance principles, concepts, and methodologies; laws, regulations, guidelines, and precedent decisions; and requirements of various legal jurisdictions.
    • Mastery of advanced management and organizational principles and practices along with a comprehensive knowledge of planning, programming, and budgeting regulations, guidelines/processes.
    • Mastery knowledge of the work performed by federal, state, local, and/or tribal law enforcement agencies, their role in the community, and how such agencies interact with the work done by prosecutors.

    Qualifications

    You may qualify at the GS level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

    In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as experience mastery knowledge of the management and administration of state, local, or tribal law enforcement programs; laws, regulations, guidelines, and precedent decisions; and requirements of various legal jurisdictions.

    The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
    1. Serves as Agency's primary Advisor in facilitating agency-wide partnerships with federal, state, local, or tribal law enforcement agencies, to enhance law enforcement coordination and knowledge sharing.
    2. Develops, articulates, and advocates Agency-wide policies and strategies related to state, local, and tribal Law enforcement policies.
    3. Communicates law enforcement program content to agency components using interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to interview, negotiate, and brief senior officials and executive personnel at all levels within and outside the organization, and the ability to write and edit detailed law enforcement reports.
    4. Plans, develops and monitors agency law enforcement programs and activities for large, complex, multi-mission organizations with multi-jurisdictional significance.

    Selective Factor: Have experience in leading and overseeing a local, county, state or tribal law enforcement agency and have experience working with law enforcement professional associations in advancing best practices and addressing key national issues and challenges.

    AND

    Possession of the following competencies:
    • Criminal Law : Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production associated with law enforcement management.
    • Technical Competence : Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
    • Planning and Evaluating : Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
    • Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.

    How You Will Be Evaluated

    Although veterans' preference points are not assigned under category rating procedures, veterans' preference eligibles are listed ahead of non-veterans within each category for which they are qualified.
