    ABOUT KING COUNTY EARLY LEARNING COALITION

    The King County Early Learning Coalition (KCELC) was created in 2004 and is a community of early learning stakeholders from a variety of sectors with diverse perspectives, educational experiences, and cultural/ethnic backgrounds. In 2022, BrightSpark Early Learning Services (BrightSpark) became the fiscal sponsor and convener of the Coalition. Under the oversight of BrightSpark and with their support, the Coalition works to eliminate inequities within the early learning system that perpetuate the education opportunity gap. The Coalition comes together in collaboration with Black, Indigenous families of color, community-based organizations, and early learning professionals in King County to advance changes in the early learning system that center the needs of our youngest learners.

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Coalition Coordinator will be a contract position responsible for providing a wide range of interagency support to include project management and grant compliance, coalition member communications, coordination of regional network, connections with WCFC leadership and coalitions state-wide, administrative needs, outreach activities and support, as well as virtual and in person meeting coordination and facilitation. The successful candidate for this position will ensure the integration and alignment of these efforts with a strong antiracist and inclusive lens. This position is a contract position and based on grant funding availability.

    Responsibilities include:
    • Facilitate the KCELC regular convenings and manage all regional coordination and communications.
    • Collaborate with Regional Leads to inform Coalition work and the work of WCFC.
    • Regularly facilitate meetings with the KCELC Leadership Team and BrightSpark Staff for information, insight, guidance, and feedback.
    • Partner with BrightSpark Staff to lead Regional KCELC Lead responsibilities with the Washington Children for Families statewide network, bringing current King County early learning trends, innovations, and challenges to the state level and vice versa.
    • Undertake regular assessment activities to better understand the experiences, desires and needs of current and potential KCELC members.
    • Build trusting relationships with WCFC staff as well as individuals and organizations that are current and potential coalition members.
    • Provide point of contact and coordination for all KCELC Learning Network Leads.
    • Ensure regular flow of information between KCELC members and the state network.
    • Ensure WCFC deliverables are met in a timely manner.
    • Monitor coalition budget, and partner with BrightSpark Staff regarding billing/invoicing, reporting, tracking of spending, and payment for materials specific to the KCELC.
    • Schedule, build agenda and facilitate organized, action-oriented, and community-based monthly KCELC member meetings.
    • Coordinate all virtual or in-person meeting logistics, including pre/post meeting communication; translation/interpretation and accessibility needs; attendance tracking; meeting space, Zoom and A/V needs; and any guest speakers.
    • Schedule and convene KCELC Transition Team meetings on a monthly or semi-monthly basis as needed to oversee the restructure process.
    • Maintain KCELC membership list, organizational profiles, and other data needs.
    • Develop content and distribute regular member newsletters, marketing materials, policy/advocacy information, and other communications as necessary.
    • Represent KCELC for any public presentations and community outreach opportunities.
    • Submit monthly reporting.
    QUALIFICATIONS

    The following qualifications are needed to be considered for the role:
    • Professional or lived experience with the childcare/early learning system or Family, Friend and Neighbor (FFN) care, and a deep passion for social justice and equity for all children.
    • Demonstrated experience in building trusting relationships, partnerships, and collaborations with a focus on Black, Indigenous and People of Color-led organizations and communities.
    • Experience working with individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds and income-levels, and the ability to approach all work with a focus on anti-racism, accessibility, and cultural consciousness.
    • Systems thinker and effective communicator
    • Effective and experienced in leading projects and meeting facilitation.
    • Ability to use technology and online platforms for virtual learning and communication.
    • Demonstrate and uphold an ongoing commitment to antiracism and social justice.
    • Strong organizational skills including the ability to work under deadlines, work on several tasks simultaneously, and organize and prioritize work quickly in response to changing needs.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently, as tasks require.
    • View work with a sense of possibility, see challenges as opportunities for creative problem-solving, and work to find creative solutions.
    • Washington State Driver's License, auto insurance, and access to a reliable automobile.
    OFFICE LOCATION & REMOTE WORK

    This position is a Hybrid position. Most deliverables can be accomplished virtually, but some in-person convenings and meetings will need to happen in community. Office/workspace is the responsibility of the contractor, and a stipend is available for technology supplies (e.g., computer), if needed. Contractors are not employees of BrightSpark Early Learning Services and are not eligible for benefits. Independent contractors are responsible for managing their own tax withholdings and for purchasing and maintaining business insurance, if required. Payment schedule will be determined in the contracting process.
