REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES
General Description
Advanced professional and supervisory engineering work in the design and review of a wide variety of engineering and environmental projects.
Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or closely related field.
Requires four (4) years progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work appropriate to the area of assignment including six (6) months of lead work/supervisory experience.
Possess and maintain Professional Engineer License in State of Florida for duration of assignment.
Preferences
Doctorate in Engineering or closely related field
Masters Degree in Engineering or closely related field
1+ years in Data Mining Software experience
1+ years Oracle Queries or Tableau experience
1+ years Automotive, Diesel, Heavy Equipment, or Transit Bus Maintenance/Manufacturing or comparable industry experience
1+ years Maintenance Management Software ( Assetworks or comparable) or Peoplesoft experience
1+ year of Bus Maintenance Reliability Testing
Commercial Driver (CDL) License Class B with Air
Brake and Passenger Endorsement
Certified Management Systems Auditor
Auto-CAD Certification
ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
The Bus Maintenance Reliability Engineer is responsible for advanced professional and supervisory maintenance and engineering work for the improvement of reliability, performance, and the life cycle of assets under the Broward County Transportation Department.
Determines root cause of failures and reliability issues with bus systems and components using data analysis methodologies, and collaborating with internal and external subject matter experts.
Develops, implements, and monitors progress of corrective actions, and generates reports for timely and relevant performance reporting to Transit Director, executive department staff, and other Broward County staff as required.
Mentors junior staff for development of technical and problem-solving skills, best practices, and process improvement.
Researches technologies for testing and implementation, and performs life cycle cost calculations.
Creates tests, prepares test agreements, provides technical oversight of test plans, documents progress, performs analysis, and produces related reports.
Supports new bus procurements by participating in vehicle commissioning and testing.
Stays abreast of industry technical advancements and determines likelihood of successful organizational implementation.
Establishes optimum preventive maintenance schedules for new and existing buses using best practice methods.
Performs related work as assigned.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
