This fully benefited position is responsible for providing instructional support for geology and physics labs and stockroom areas including preparing and modifying teaching aids, materials and equipment associated with classroom and laboratory instruction. The position is 32 hours a week, ten months a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring terms).

• Maintain the geology and physics laboratories and storage areas including samples, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
• Prepare and set up equipment, materials, and solutions for classwork experiments and projects.
• Prepares demonstrations as requested by instructors.
• Assist instructors with lecture and laboratory material.
• Conduct laboratory or lecture demonstrations.
• Confer with instructor in establishing and developing assignments.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory and demonstration instruments and equipment.
• Monitor laboratories to ensure compliance with safety policy; assists in the development of safe laboratory procedures.
• Maintain safety equipment and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files.
• Estimate quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed; orders equipment and supplies for geology and physics courses; follows through with procurement of supplies; maintains adequate stock levels.
• Maintain purchase and inventory records.
• Receive materials and supplies used in classes; label and store them appropriately.
• Manage laboratory waste according to state and federal regulations, including accumulation, designation, storage, and disposal.
• Oversee student workers in the geology and physics labs.
• Orient research students to the appropriate lab, familiarizing them with lab resources.
• Support faculty in organizing and conducting undergraduate research projects, as well as coordinating field trips, which may require driving.
• Other duties as assigned.

A bachelor's degree with major study in a basic applied science AND Two years of full-time experience as an Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 or Equivalent education/experience.

• College coursework or a degree in geology, physics, or earth sciences.
• Experience with, and knowledge of, laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience with the curation of rock, fossil, and mineral collections.
• Ability to maintain and assist in the creation of public displays, a seismograph, research posters, and other media used by the department.
• Knowledge of safe handling and storage of low dose nuclear samples
• Familiarity with electrical circuits lab equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, DMMs, and LCR meters
• Knowledge of safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
• Skill in the effective and accurate use of ctcLink in day-to-day operations.
• Bilingual, especially in Spanish and English.
• Knowledge of appropriate measures that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

There is one 32 hours per week, 10-month position. Classified employees are represented by the Washington State Federation of State Employees (WFSE). The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees.

COMPENSATION
Monthly Salary: Range 47 ($3, $4,171.20)
