Location: Houston, Texas
Type of Role: Contract
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Our team is currently looking for a Technical Writer for a client in the Oil and Gas industry.
The Technical Writer will develop, write, and edit technical training material for manuals, operating procedures, and related technical training.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Works with subject matter experts to create training materials.
• Interviews production and engineering personnel, SME's and reads other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
• Reviews manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service equipment.
• Studies P&ID's, PFD's, sketches, drawings, specifications, to integrate into procedures, and training materials.
• Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology using Microsoft templates and Visio drawings.
• Review published materials and recommended revisions or changes in scope, format, and content. Maintains records and files of work and revisions.
• Selects or creates photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school, or 5-9 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Petrochemical or Refinery background highly preferred.
• Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information to other employees of the organization.
• Ability to write clearly and informatively.
• Ability to efficiently edit work for spelling and grammar.
• Capability to vary writing style to meet needs.
• Ability to read and interpret written information.
• Must be proficient using Microsoft Office and Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Visio Technical, Image/Photo editing applications and Documentum.
• Working knowledge of document scanning hardware and software.
