    Ardelle Associates is seeking a Paralegal to support the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) Civil Division, in Newark, NJ.

    Duties

    Personnel will be responsible for directly and independently supporting one of more program areas by providing a wide variety of administrative, data entry, and legal support functions. Work requires knowledge of office skills, personal computers, scanners, copy and fax machines, and an ability to work as a team member and facilitate work processes among other staff members.

    Personnel must have the ability to use MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat Professional and other department specific databases, VNS, CDCS, UFMS, E2 Travel

    Paralegal in the Civil Division will be expected to perform the following assignment

    • Docketing duties such as opening, updating, and closing civil cases through use of the USAO-DNJ's automated case tracking system case file management duties including receiving, logging, organizing, indexing, and managing documents, data, and other evidence collected pursuant to interrogatories, document requests, requests for admission, subpoenas, civil investigative demands, or other civil discovery requests as part of civil investigations. Upload documents, data and other evidence received consistent with existing file folder structures on the USAO-DNJ's network detailed review and analysis of case materials.Tabs, numbers, labels, and assembles documents, data, and other evidence gathered as part of civil investigations.Prepares chronologies of documents and case materials. Prepares tables, graphs, and charts of case materials which may be incorporated into legal documents or courtroom privileged documents and materials.
    • Assists AUSAs in assembling and organizing documents, data, and other evidence for witness interviews, depositions, settlement negotiations, hearings and trial; assists AUSAs in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, binders, and exhibits needed information from government agencies, government databases and other publicly available sources. Using established databases, performs data searches, report design, and other data retrieval assignments.
    • Automated litigation assistance to AUSAs utilizing various software applications such as Relativity, iPro Eclipse, Everlaw, CaseMap, TimeMap, Trial Director, Beyond Compare, USAfx (cloud storage interface), and SecureZip.
    • Maintain calendar of assigned active civil cases.Tracks filing, hearing, and trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews. Develops and maintains suspense system for ongoing cases and informs the AUSA of pending dates and deadlines. Schedules appointments, interviews, and conferences, and provides reminders of commitments and court preparing itineraries and securing transportation and hotel reservations. Prepares travel authorizations and vouchers for signature by authorized government personnel.

    Paralegal in the Civil Division will be expected to perform the following assignments

    • Processes, and assists AUSAs in preparing a variety of legal documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery requests, draft judgments and orders, applications, notices, and briefs. Completes variable aspects of recurring legal documents in conformance with the rules governing their style and format. Ensures proper format, spelling, punctuation, capitalization and grammar.
    • Analyze, and summarize relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases; and prepares digests of points of law involved; analyzes appellate records to isolate facts pertinent to distinct legal issues.
    • Utilize a variety of automated legal research tools, in addition to public information databases and other automated resources, to research legal matters. analyzes, and summarizes case materials for use by AUSAs in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents. Prepares substantive outlines of case materials. Notes deficiencies in case materials,e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements, and requests further investigation by investigative personnel to correct deficiencies, or personally conducts limited investigations.
    • Check documents for relevance and privileged in accordance with established guidelines and criteria. summarizes, and outlines trial testimony. Assist AUSAs with interviews of potential witnesses jury instructions to assist AUSAs in preparing for trial.
    • Track the progress of pending cases and initiates action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines.
    • Keeps appropriate staff members informed about the current status of criminal cases and investigations.

    Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to pass a federal criminal and financial background, conducted in accordance with federal laws and regulations
