Description

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) top priorities include providing the highest level of care within a welcoming environment while fostering support for the physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of our residents.

Requirements

The CNA will work under the direction of the RN and LPN and will serve as a member of a nursing team with a written assignment.
Provide patient care to residents whose care may be impacted by psychiatric, medical, and geriatric conditions.
Report results from enema administration by licensed nursing staff.
Personal patient care including bathing, feeding, grooming, and mobilizing with demonstration of skills which reflect the needs of the older adult.
Administer prescribed medications to patients.
Work in all assignment areas within the AFRH including: Ambulatory Care, Assisted Living Unit (ALU), Dementia, and Long-term Care Unit (LTCU) areas.
Sterilize and prepare medical tools and equipment.
Collection and preparation of urine and stool specimens for laboratory analysis.
Provide companionship and basic care to patients.
Maintain a clean and healthy environment.
Escort residents to appointments off the AFRH campus as required for medical appointments and/or treatments as necessary. Transportation will be provided by AFRH; CNA may be responsible for transporting resident's medical records and must remain with the resident at all times.
Report any changes in patient condition or behavior in a timely manner to the appropriate personnel as defined within the unit.
Adhere to all Medical Center policies and procedures as directed.

Qualifications:

Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States.
Language: English Language Proficiency; must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA Handbook, 5005, part II, chapter 3 section A, paragraph 3j
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from an accredited nursing assistant training program.
Genuine interest in working with seniors.
Previous experience in nursing, patient care, or other related fields.
Shall have one year of experience in geriatric setting.
Ability to build rapport with patients.
Compassionate and caring demeanor.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Ability to work well with others/in teams.
