    Position Summary:
    Performs a variety of manual work related to cleaning and maintaining buildings according to established practices and cleaning schedules.

    All work is performed under the general supervision of the lead custodian and plays a vital role in providing reliable and high-quality service in support of school system objectives.


    Essential Duties:

    Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes, and buffs floor surfacesCleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessaryCleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds, and light fixturesDust and cleans desks and other furnitureAssists in moving heavy objects such as furniture and equipment for meetings, workshops and a variety of other purposesEmpties trash in classrooms, offices, hallways, and bathrooms.

    Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways, as necessaryPerforms maintenance and minor repairs such as replacing light switch covers, light bulbs, ceiling tiles, fixing door handles, etc.,Maintains all classrooms, common areas, offices, and restrooms in clean and sanitary conditionMay be required to work athletic events or other school activities indoors or outside; work may include setup, take down, raking, cleanup, trash removal, etc.

    Performs general grounds maintenance when neededMaintains all custodial equipment properly and keeps equipment cleanUses custodial supplies and chemicals properly and efficientlyReports any maintenance problems to the Lead CustodianFollows all chemical, general safety, and fire regulationsThis position may be on-call for work after hours and on weekends as neededConveys a positive image of the school systemRegular and predictable attendance is requiredPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Previous custodial experience preferredPossession of a high school diploma or GEDValid Georgia driver's license and safe driving recordKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:General knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in custodial workSome knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materialsAbility to follow instructionsAbility to perform medium physical workAbility to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignmentsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignmentsAbility to work independently and in team environments to meet goals and deadlinesCustomer-focused and results-drivenProfessional and positive attitude and demeanor

    Essential Physical Requirements:

Requires the ability to prepare timesheets and maintenance reports using prescribed formatRequires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situationsRequires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
