    Description


    The Nursing House Supervisor provides oversight and makes decisions related to patient care that influence hospital and the SMMC Clinic departmental operations on all shifts, weekends and holidays. The Nursing House Supervisor articulates issues and problems to department heads with recommendations for solutions. Decisions must encompass knowledge of department and organizational goals and strategies. On nights and weekends, this position functions as the senior in-house decision-maker for the hospital. He/she facilitates discussion and problem- solving among staff and appropriate decision-making skills demonstrating competency in the care of patients of all ages.

    The Nursing House Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the care of the assigned patients and directs others to assure patient care is based on patient needs, values, and choices. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules and regulations established by the Idaho Board of Nursing, and knowledge of policies and procedures within Steele Memorial Medical Center. He/she demonstrates skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care based on meticulous application of the nursing process. He/she demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collections, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality. This commitment to quality results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements. The Nursing House Supervisor serves as a professional role model, as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers and other providers. He/she demonstrates competency in the care of the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.

    Requirements
    • Minimum of three to five years of nursing experience preferred
    • At least one-year supervision or management experience preferred.
