    Job Summary: The Medical Technologist performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff and other individuals. The position relies on education and training to complete responsibilities.

    Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree. LSBME licensed as CLS, temporary license, or letter of pending permit issued by LSBME.

    Responsibilities

    1. Productivity
      1. When necessary, collects blood in an accurate manner following proper collection protocol and sterile technique.
      2. Proficient in all areas of the Lab.
      3. Completes all workload on the designated shift without leaving task for other shifts.
      4. Calls all critical values in a timely manner.
      5. Able to work the bench with little need of direction.
    2. Quality
      1. Able to report out reports consistent with the diagnosis of the patient without error.
      2. Understands the need to report out quality Laboratory work and understands the correlation of diagnosis with specific test being reported out.
      3. Utilizes time to accomplish work in an efficient manner.
      4. Operates equipment and performs job-related duties in a safe manner.
    3. Compliance
      1. Works with Director to keep policies, QC and Maintenance all up to date and compliant with CAP standards.
      2. Employee shall conform to regulatory, customer and organizational requirements.
      3. Adheres to infection control practices. Has completed required TB skin tests.
    4. Team work / Customer Service
      1. Works with Lab Director to fill open positions and is able to work different shifts when needed.
      2. Works with Nursing staff as a resource and able to communicate so the best possible outcome of the patient happens on a consistent basis.
      3. Assists fellow team members during busy times with a willing and cooperative attitude.
      4. Acts as mentor in training and assisting lower level Technologists and Technicians.
      5. When requested, adjusts personal schedule to meet department/unit needs.
    5. Other duties as assigned
      1. Adheres to hospital policy on the usage of Paid Time Off and Extended Illness Time.
      2. Reports to work on time, and if necessary, reports tardiness to appropriate person.
      3. Maintains a professional appearance, according to job requirements, at all times.
      4. Attended all required mandatory educational sessions.
      5. Responds appropriately to fire, safety and disaster situations.
      6. Utilizes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the appropriate manner for optimal personal protection.
      7. Assumes personal responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development.
      8. Performs all other duties as assigned.
