    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:


    Located in north Seattle, Heart Institute at UW Medical Center - Northwest provides a wide range of cardiac services, including early prevention, risk assessment and acute and chronic disease management.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Sets up exam area, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready

    Prepares and informs patients of exam procedure, observes and monitors patient's condition and reactions to exam

    Independently performs assigned EKG exams in accordance with established protocols and standards, demonstrates ability to perform the entire variety of technical procedures

    Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies, and investigates and informs supervisor of any quality issues or problems

    Operates equipment according to departmental procedures, adjusts equipment parameters to obtain high-quality recordings, and calibrates and inspects/evaluates equipment for proper functioning

    Interprets EKG data; edits, types and charts reports, inputs exam orders, patient data, and patient charges

    Continually evaluates patient flow and work assignments, makes necessary adjustments, and prioritizes work effectively.

    Answers phones and assists with clerical and support activities such as typing, data entry, filing, microfilming, registration, scheduling, etc

    Assists with training new personnel, prepares and presents in-service education programs if assigned


    REQUIREMENTS:
    High School education or GED equivalent

    Training and experience in performing EKGs gained through working as a Resident EKG Technician at UWMC OR previous experience in recording electrocardiograms in a hospital setting for a minimum of six months
