    About Our Organization:

    The Waukesha County Business Alliance, Inc., a private, member-driven organization, has been the voice of business since its founding in 1918 as the Waukesha Association of Commerce.

    Established to serve the Waukesha business community, the Alliance has evolved into a countywide chamber of commerce representing approximately 1,200 member businesses and community organizations.

    Its mission is to drive economic growth in Waukesha County and the region by fostering a vibrant business community through four key pillars:
    Advocate, Develop, Engage and Grow

    Job Summary:
    The Vice President of Public Policy is responsible for leading the advocacy and lobbying efforts of the Alliance.

    This role provides leadership and direction with the goal of advancing the business communitys policy priorities through communication, advocacy, relationship-building, and lobbying.

    The position reports to the Alliance President/CEO.


    Primary Responsibilities:
    Lead all lobbying on behalf of the organization to advance pro-business policies in a nonpartisan manner.
    This includes overseeing the annual development of the organizations Policy Agenda.

    Lead the efforts of the Alliance Policy Board, Economic Development Policy Committee and Infrastructure Policy Committee, serving as a staff liaison to all groups.

    Develop relationships with elected and appointed public officials from both political parties, keeping the Alliances position nonpartisan.
    Research, analyze and monitor business-related issues on the local, state and national level on an on-going basis.
    Develop and implement strategies to promote a government environment that encourages business growth and prosperity.
    Communicate the Alliances position to appropriate public officials at all levels.
    Encourage members of the business community to become active in public policy.
    Prepare members to volunteer by testifying at public hearings, respond to calls-to-action, contact officials, etc.
    Manage communications about public policy issues with Alliance members by contributing to the Alliances communication efforts.
    Manage any voter education communication or forums, including candidate questionnaires or forums.

    Register as a lobbyist in the state of Wisconsin and handle the Alliances time-tracking, including required reporting and following all guidelines as determined by the Wisconsin Ethics Commission.

    Build strong relationships with Alliance member companies and CEOs in the region.
    Coordinate visits for public officials to visit with Alliance member companies.
    Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and provide an advocacy update, as needed.

    Provide strategic direction for Alliance policy programs including potential topics, speaker suggestions and contribute toward the planning of policy programs and events.

    Maintain contact with Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC), the United States Chamber of Commerce (U.S. Chamber), and other organizations with complementary goals, including recommendations on common positions on issues that impact our members.

    Contribute to both the Alliances new member sales process and annual member retention process by regularly connecting with Alliance prospects and member companies.

    Occasionally serve as a point of contact for the organization for media inquiries, community engagement meetings or speaking engagements.

    Serve as a member of the Alliances management team and contribute to overall guidance and strategic direction for the organization.

    Provide support for the Waukesha County Center for Growth.


    Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree preferred.
    Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
    Strategic thinking and problem-solving.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and database software.
    Must be organized, flexible, able to handle multiple priorities and work independently.
    Must have a valid drivers license and provide own transportation.

    The Vice President of Public Policy is a full-time, salaried position and reports to the Alliances President/CEO.Availability required for occasional early morning and/or evening Alliance events or programs.
