    General Description

    Overview of Job:


    Georgia Department of Community Affairs is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to perform professional accounting functions, including accounts receivable, general ledger, asset management, account reconciliation, cash management and financial reporting.


    Duties include but are not limited to:

    independently reviewing/approving financial transactions, processing complex receivables, performing reconciliations, developing internal financial reports, and completing and analyzing financial reports to determine fiscal integrity and compliance with principles, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.

    Maintains accounting file information and performs other duties as assigned. Provides customer service and support for the operations and financial reporting unit.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND one (1) year of professional accounting experience OR
    Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of professional accounting experience OR
    Bachelor's degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of professional accounting experience
    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in governmental accounting
    Completion of the State Financial Management Certificate Program
    Experience utilizing the PeopleSoft application
    Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)
    Strong organizational skills

    An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.

    WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL, HOURS, ENVIRONMENT)
    This position is currently designated as a hybrid (part in-office and part remote/Telework) position.
    This position is full time (40 hours per week) and may require occasional overtime.
    Local periodic travel may be required.
    PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

    Sedentary Work – Ability to exert pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

    Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
