    Job Description:
    The Materials Science Engineer will design and carry out developmental work using appropriate methods and instrumentation to scientifically confirm efficacy, stability, compatibility and reliability of design

    for Metrex surface disinfectants, precleaners, and high level disinfectants/sterilants . This position will be based in Romulus, MI or Orange, CA.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Identify gaps related to material compatibility and propose robust solutions or independent studies.

    Design and carry out developmental work using appropriate methods and instrumentation to scientifically confirm efficacy, stability, compatibility and reliability of design.

    Independently plan and execute projects according to projects' timetable and establish daily or weekly routines to meet project timetable.
    Present scientific data and recommendation to influence internal stakeholder and drive project direction.
    Develop and implement new testing methods and operating procedures to facilitate formula development process.
    Perform material compatibility study for surface disinfectant wipes and liquids as per ASTM and ISO guidelines
    Conducting a wide variety of experimental tasks, including (but not limited to) tensile testing using Instron, corrosion study of metals, and evaluating compatibility of chemicals with medical devices

    Manage vendor and external collaborator relationships; proactively collaborate with external medical device, polymer, and component materials manufacturers for material compatibility testing.

    Collaborate and carry out design verification studies and other studies to meet the design controls requirements.
    Perform engineering analysis such as stress, tolerance stack, material selection, and FMEA.
    Independently conducts root cause analysis investigations.
    Participate in efforts associated with continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and other organization capability initiatives.
    Work on cross functional team to prepare scientific conference presentations and publications.
    Adhere to safety guidelines
    Estimated 5% travel will be required for this position.

    Job Requirements:

    Qualifications:
    BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, or related discipline.
    5-10 years of R&D experience in medical device, chemical or other highly regulated industry.
    Knowledge of material characterization and failure analysis techniques.
    Able to perform material compatibility study for surface disinfectant wipes and liquids as per ASTM and ISO guidelines
    Experience conducting a wide variety of experimental tasks, including (but not limited to) tensile testing using Instron, corrosion study of metals, and evaluating compatibility of chemicals with medical devices
    Experience working with microscopes, tensile/strain testing (Instron, Blue Hill Universal) and rheology
    Knowledge of lab best practices and GMP
    Familiarity with ASTM/ ISO standards and mechanical testing.
    In-depth understanding of various statistical analysis tools

    Preferred:
    Experience in manufacturing processes such as injection molding, blow molding, etc. is a plus
    Must be task-oriented, motivated, well organized, adaptable to change, and possess strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
    Understanding of medical device material compatibility testing methodology is a plus.
    Project Management experience is a plus.
