The Boeing Company is seeking a Mid-Level (Level 3) or Senior (Level 4) Aerospace System Safety Engineer – Data Scientist to join our organization onsite in Everett, WA or Seattle, WA. We are seeking passionate teammates to help us continue our mission to establish a safety engineering function across the company and develop enduring product safety design processes, practices, and solutions to assure the safety, quality, integrity, and mission success of our products and services. Our objectives are supported by a collaborative environment defined by exceptional teamwork, inclusiveness, and a passion for leading with speed, agility and creativity.

The Aerospace Safety Analytics team leverages in-service aviation data (trajectory/ADS‐B, Flight Management System (FMS) data, text-based reports, maintenance logs, and other sources) to monitor, assess, and drive improvements in the safety of Boeing products and operations. We develop analyses, models dashboards, and production data products to identify and track product and operational risks, quantify impacts and generate actionable recommendations that influence design, procedures, and operations.

We are hiring a flexible individual to support this mission by analyzing and interpreting aviation data and/or building data products and tools that surface safety insights for stakeholders. Candidates may come from a stronger data-science background, a stronger aerospace/operations/engineering background, or a hybrid of both. The role will contribute to ingestion and processing of multiple aviation data sources, exploratory and inferential analysis, model development or validation, visualization and reporting, and communications to safety stakeholders (engineers, flight operations, program teams, regulators).

    Primary responsibilities:

    • Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact.
    • Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices.
    • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures.
    • Creates and maintains analytic tools and data-driven processes to asses safety risk and inform safety enhancement.
    • Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
    • Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods.
    • Ingests, cleans, fuses, and validates aviation data sources (e.g., ADS‐B, FMS, FOQA, maintenance logs, text reports).
    • Performs exploratory, statistical, and time/trajectory-based analyses to identify safety trends, anomalies, and risk drivers.
    • Develops, validates, and maintains analytics, models, and monitors (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, or prescriptive) to quantify risk and measure mitigations.
    • Builds reusable data products and visualizations (dashboards, reports, alerts) to inform engineering, operations, and safety stakeholders.
    • Translates analytic results into clear safety findings, recommendations, and corrective action plans.
    • Communicates, collaborates, and presents to cross-functional teams.
    • Collaborates with data engineers, ML engineers, safety engineers, flight operations, and regulatory stakeholders to operationalize insights.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
