- Adhere to school policies and procedures, including those related to classroom management, safety, and student conduct.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).
- At least 3 years previous classroom teaching experience working with elementary school-aged students, preferably in an urban setting.
- Deep understanding of culturally relevant teaching practices and their impact on student learning and development.
- Passion for educating and empowering black and brown boys.
- A proven commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in the elementary school setting

Position Overview:
The Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys (BWS) is a tuition-free private, Episcopal school for boys in Kindergarten–5th grade located in S.E. DC, striving to alter the educational and social trajectory of children from historically underserved communities, preparing them for leadership and service in their communities and well beyond.
BWS is seeking a dedicated Lead Elementary School Teacher to join our team. As a Lead Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of our students, particularly focusing on the development and empowerment of black and brown boys. We are looking for a passionate educator who is committed to culturally relevant teaching and pedagogy. As well, we are seeking someone who has a positive outlook, high level of emotional intelligence, and an ability to connect with others and build relationships. A deep love for and understanding of educating elementary school boys is essential, as is working with our scholars in ways that are affirming, joyful, and supportive.
