Job description
An established multi-office law firm seeks a business litigation associate to join their dynamic team in Columbia, SC.
EXPERIENCE:
- Business Law, Real Estate, Transactional work, and/or employment law
- Insurance Defense is a must
- Draft and file complaints in state and federal court
- Draft discovery inquiries and responses
- Draft motions and responses including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgement and discovery motions
- Take and defend witness depositions including expert witnesses
- Act as lead counsel or second-chair at state and federal court hearings & trials
- Handle the administration part of maintaining, updating and keeping track of important legal documents in the client's file
- Draft various contracts, agreements, and manuals for employer clients
- Assist in trial preparation including witness and client preparation; exhibit control, and witness management.
- Help marketing the firm and your position to create new business for the firm
REQUIREMENTS:
- Litigation experience from 4+ years
- Portable book of business
- Excellent persuasive writing skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Possess a thorough knowledge of state and federal civil procedure rules
- Enthusiasm for continuing legal education
- Technology savvy
- Persuasive communication skills that will help in building trust and broadening the client base
- Accuracy in the delivery of quality legal work product
- Exceptional client skills in creating positive relationships
- Strong management skills of non-lawyers
- High ethical standards
- Have an interest in understanding the business end of the practice of law
