    JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    The Penn State College of Medicine, Cancer Institute in Hershey, PA, is seeking a Clinical Trials Workforce Development Educator & Trainer.

    In partnership with the Associate Dean for Cancer Clinical Research and the Administrative Director of the Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Office, the Workforce Development Educator and Trainer plays a key role in supporting the growth and advancement of the Penn State Clinical Trials Office (CTO). The main focus is on overseeing various project activities related to training and educating clinical research staff and investigators.

    This position is crucial for ensuring that cancer clinical research faculty and staff undergo proper onboarding, initial role-specific training, and continuous education opportunities. It plays a vital role in guaranteeing safe, effective, and compliant cancer clinical research across the CTO staff.

    As a prominent figure within the CTO, the Workforce Development Educator and Trainer acts as a catalyst for positive change to drive and facilitate progress towards achieving the organizational goals for cancer clinical research across consortium sites.

    The Educator and Trainer ensures adherence to all regulations from federal and local agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board (IRB).

    This role collaborates with Directors and Unit Leads, overseeing all aspects of training, education, and onboarding for new employees (investigators and staff) into the PSCI CTO, while also developing infrastructure to support ongoing training and educational needs for new staff.


    • Works with external stakeholders at PSU University Park, Greater Allegheny, the CTSI, and College of Nursing on clinical research training and education programs as necessary.

    • Manages an entire training and education program, working with Team Leads, Subject Matter Experts, and management to ensure educational deadlines are met during the designated probationary period set by Human Resources.

    • Develops and maintains a tracking system to verify completion of initial and ongoing job competencies for all PSCI CTO staff.

    • Assesses education quality regularly and identifies educational needs within the PSCI CTO.

    • Coordinates regular training in-services with staff and collaborates with cancer center nurses, research nurses, managers, and subject matter experts to schedule mandatory training meetings for new staff.

    • Ensures compliance with all training and education for research staff, managing training documents for easy access by staff.

    • Identifies areas for process improvement within the training and education program to ensure an efficient and strong education program.

    • Acts as the point of contact for staff regarding training concepts, serving as a resource to CTO staff regarding procedural queries.

    • Participates in centralized activities, such as preparing clinical research policies and standard operating procedures.

    • Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach and proficiency in working with numbers, metrics, and spreadsheets

    • Experience in defining target audiences and creating engaging campaigns that inform and motivate

    • Engagement in quality and performance enhancement processes and initiatives

    • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills

    • Ability to stay updated with current industry trends and best practices

    • Completion of any other duties as assigned



    Minimum Education & Experience


    • 6+ years of relevant experience

    • Master's Degree or higher

    • Or an equivalent blend of education and experience



    This position is a temporary role funded for one year from the hiring date, with the potential for renewal.

    The salary range for this position, encompassing all potential grades, is:

    $61, $89,600.00
