    JOB SUMMARY

    This position maintains a presence in the various Villages by continually patrolling designated areas to observe and report various resident issues and safety standards. In addition, Patrol Drivers serve to respond as needed to support District and/or local Public Safety personnel with traffic control or other areas as designated. Patrol Drivers exhibit a friendly and caring attitude when interacting with residents and guests to ensure positive community relations. This is a substitute position primarily used to fill in for absences of regularly scheduled Community Watch Staff. There are no permanent schedules related to this position, nor a guarantee of specific hours.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes, but not limited to)

    Patrol

    • Performs continuous patrol of assigned area during assigned shift.
    • Assists any local or District Public Safety department personnel as directed.
    • Relays observed traffic problems to Supervisor so that local authorities can be notified in a timely manner.
    • Monitors and assists at any manned gatehouse as needed, including performing duties of gate attendant.
    • Repairs damaged gate arms when observed, or report to dispatch for DPM assistance.
    • Checks residents' homes within assigned patrol area that are in the House Check program.
    • Checks on residents participating in the Adult Watch program as directed by Dispatch.
    • Checks RV lot(s) if within assigned patrol area or as directed.
    • Reports all suspicious activity and or people observed while on shift in a timely manner to Dispatch so that appropriate law enforcement may be notified.
    • Locates solicitors so that local authorities can be notified.
    • Obtains vehicle information on large moving trucks.
    • Checks golf courses after hours to ensure safety.
    • Picks up hazardous debris in roadways when observed.

    District buildings

    • Checks all District buildings within assigned patrol area.
    • Locks-up and/or open specified District buildings as required.

    Property

    • Reports all observed resident property violations, including but not limited to, deed and covenant violations, trash violations and water restrictions.
    • Observes District property for possible maintenance issues and/or criminal damage and reports same to Dispatch in a timely manner so that DPM can be notified.
    • Reports observed street and Recreation center light posts that need bulbs replaced.

    Pool

    • Opens and closes buildings, pools, restrooms and etc., Check resident and Guest IDs.

    Special Details

    • Delivers packages to Board Members as requested.
    • Provides support during Special Events as requested.
    • Provides Disaster relief assistance as directed.

    Public Relations

    • Enhances positive community relations by assisting residents and guests in a friendly and courteous manner.
    • Obtains and reports to Dispatch, and/or Supervisor, resident concerns that may need to be relayed to local Law Enforcement or District departments for resolution.
    • Assists lost residents and guests in golf carts.
    • Monitors bus stations to ensure assistance to those residents &/or guests that arrive late at night.

    Additional

    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.

    ESSENTIAL EXPECTATIONS OF PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIOR (Includes, but not limited to)

    • Cultivates and maintains effective working relations within the department, the District, as well as outside of the organization.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • High School Diploma or GED; or one to three months patrol &/or driving experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    MINIMUM CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
    • Proof of Florida residency.
    • CPR and AED Certification (provided by department).
    • OSHA hazardous material training (provided by department).
    • Fire Extinguisher safety training (provided by department).
    • All candidates and employees must successfully pass background screening.

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge

    • Knowledge as required to support the Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

    Skills

    • Must possess basic computer skills, including but not limited to:
      • the ability to enter time in The District's electronic timekeeping system.
      • the ability to successfully navigate online training modules and assignments.
      • the ability to successfully complete onboarding documents as required.
      • the ability to e-sign documents as assigned by The District.

    Abilities

    • Be able to stand for up to eight (8) hours at a time.
    • Ability to work outside in heat or cold.
    • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to our residents.
    • Position requires attention to detail.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional appearance.

    EQUIPMENT

    Position regularly requires the use of a motor vehicle, telephones, fax, copy machine, personal computers, digital cameras, communications radio, and other productivity software and other office equipment. Position requires use of/driving of own or District vehicle.
