Albany County seeks candidates for the position of part-time Policy Analyst for the Minority Conference of the Albany County Legislature in program evaluation as well as analysis of current policies, procedures and operations. The salary range for this position is $28,000-$32,000. The position work is multi-disciplinary in nature. Analysts may, however, focus on specified topical areas of County government. The incumbent is expected to exercise some independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES, TASKS, AND ASSIGNMENTS

Evaluates departmental requests for legislative action and makes recommendations;

Reviews, researches and responds to constituent concerns on a variety of issues;

Identifies grant opportunities through research and drafts grant applications;

Creates daily compilations of relevant news stories for review by members of the Minority Conference;

Identifies public activities for attendance by the Minority Conference of the Albany County Legislature, including honoring worthy individuals or groups, and attends events with Legislators as needed;

Manages calendar for 10 Legislators and 4-person Minority Conference office;

Coordinates analyses of the programmatic effects of County-wide requests and prepares recommendations for consideration by the Minority Leader of the Legislature;

Writes letters and certificates to constituents congratulating them on noteworthy events and achievements;

Oversees the collection and analyses of data relative to the performance of government programs and operations; and

Advises the Minority Conference on policy decisions pertaining to county government and prepares reports that evaluate improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a New York State or regionally accredited college or university with at least a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Political Science, Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Policy, Social Welfare or related field and six (6) months of experience in public policy development, human services, social services or related field.
