    Greene Lumber, a member of The Baillie Group, is one of North America's largest hardwood lumber manufacturers, distributors, and exporters. We are a provider of hardwood logs, hardwood lumber and proprietary grade hardwood lumber products.

    Greene Lumber located in Davenport, NY, is looking to add an experienced Sawmill Manager to their team. Greene Lumber is a flagship operation of the Baillie Group, sawing 2mmbf a month featuring state of the art bin sorter and autograder, with a continuing appetite for industry leading technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing and manage sawmill operations with overall responsibilities for safety, quality, hiring and training of employees and other production-related activities. This person will need to work in concert with maintenance, and procurement. This is a hands on, boots on the floor role that will direct and manage all mill operations while striving to continuously improve all areas of mill performance. This position answers directly to the Sawmill Operations Manager.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure the safe operation of the mill as #1 priority.
    • Coordinate mill activities with lumber sales to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
    • Responsible for operating expenditures and direction of all production employees.
    • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
    • Monitor sawing of lumber to ensure logs are processed for their highest and best use and waste is minimized.
    • Manage and work alongside maintenance team to ensure all machinery and processes are working to peak efficiency.
    • Suggest and help implement areas for improvement through changes in machinery, flow and/or people.
    • Help drive continuous improvement throughout the mill, machinery, processes, and people.
    • Responsible for the proper use and care of all company assets.
    • Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
    • Encourage and foster a sense of positive morale among the work force.
    • Assess and develop talent at all levels of mill operation.
    • Work with a wider network of managers to coordinate and achieve overall company goals.

    Desired Skills and Experience:

    • 5+ years of related management work experience desired.
    • Flexible, adaptable, team-orientated leader who has the capacity to work in concert with a broader organization.
    • Proven ability to respectfully manage a diverse workforce.
    • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills a must.

    • Minimum - Anticipated Maximum Salary: $80,000-$125,000/yr.*
