- Create a Christian environment for the children and coworkers.
- Develop music and movement curriculum and activities age appropriate to the classroom, including lesson plans that may be reviewed by the director, and produce regular monthly evidence of said planned activities through calendars, newsletters, etc.
- Plan and present a Christmas/Winter program and a Spring program for families, with the assistance of other staff as needed/necessary.
- Develop and maintain supportive relationships with families.
- Participate with children in prayers, songs and interact with children during free time; (join in play) and greet children.
- Continue ongoing training in issues of childcare and development. The teacher will achieve at least 16 credit hours per year. Trainings should be both self-scheduled and director-scheduled.
- Comply with operating licensing policies and use approved discipline methods and redirecting techniques appropriately.
- Ensure compliance of the daily schedule and room conditions with licensing requirements.
- Plan and assist with outside activities and group activities and attend staff meetings.
- Assist in classrooms when necessary and float to other positions as directed.
- Assist Director when necessary and fill in in Director's absence when needed.
- Assist Director with check-in in the mornings.
- Provide physical care of young children as required.
- Care for resources and center equipment responsibly.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Observe, see, hear, and respond to children's needs, emergencies, and conflicts that may arise in a classroom, on the playground, and in the bathroom and common areas.
- Potentially lift 30 pounds from the floor to a waist-high table up to 10-15 times daily.
- Crouch to a child's height, maintain eye contact at the child's level, sit on the floor, and get up from the floor easily.
- Stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment.
- Determine cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs of children.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Handle stress, tension, and exasperation that contact with many children and parents can bring daily.
- Walk a minimum of one mile at once and stand for extended periods of time.
- Run to a child in an emergency.
- Participate in all daily activities including water activities, singing, and reading stories.
- Move at a fast pace, quickly respond to a situation, jump into participate in an activity, and assist other staff.
- Work collaboratively with all staff across the Preschool in a professional manner to create and foster a positive work environment free from gossip.

Job DescriptionSummary
Blacksburg United Methodist Preschool (BUMP), in association with Blacksburg United Methodist Church, is actively seeking a Music/Movement/Float Teacher to provide a professional and safe learning environment for children ages 3 to 5, with an emphasis on play-based, hands-on activities.
Classes are divided by age-level.
When not preparing for or teaching music and movement, the teacher will float throughout the preschool as necessary and provide extra support to classrooms or to the Director, as needed.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in the field of Early Childhood Education/Development and Music.CPR/First Aid certifications are required, or a willingness to obtain the certifications. Background check required.
