- Assist the TrailNation Collaborative Lead in the development of case studies spotlighting innovation and best practices in the development of multi-use trail networks. Tasks include researching networks and leading & participating in interview phone calls and video calls with project partners.
- Work alongside Midwest Regional Director to create a database of outdoor economy-related businesses within the Industrial Heartland Trails Coalition (trail network) footprint in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
- Collaborate with Midwest Regional Director to create definitions of the business types to be included.
- Gather and write up case studies as comparable examples for Yellowstone Heritage Trail project in Park County, MT (on topics ranging from trails in agricultural and ranching areas, trails in national park gateway communities, and trails in over-touristed areas)
- Any other duties as assigned

Job Summary
RTC's Trail Development Team is looking for an intern interested in working on trail planning and development. The selected intern will participate as a member of the team and will be included in staff and social meetings. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule(s) or other commitments.
A minimum of 12 weeks and a maximum of 18 weeks will be the duration of the internship, Interns can start as early as the second week of June 2024. Interns will work 20-24 hours per week as part of their weekly schedule.
Job Location
This position is located in our Washington, D.C., National Headquarters and is eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule in accordance with RTC's policies. A hybrid schedule is preferred (working 1-2 days (T&TH) per week in the D.C. office).
Job Duties
The Trail Development Intern will assist with the following duties:

Requirements:Basic Qualifications and Personal Attributes
RTC is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student working toward a degree in planning, public policy, social sciences, natural resources, or a related field. Applicants should be highly organized, able to work independently and manage time efficiently and possess a strong interest in the topics of health, the environment, sustainable transportation, pedestrian issues, bicycling, or trails.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Excel, and strong research skills are required. Familiarity with ArcGIS Online, experience with database management is a plus. Candidates should have strong organizational and writing skills and an eye for detail.
Candidates should also possess a comfortability with cold calling and engaging with partners to ask questions and document best practices.
