    Job Description

    The Associate Director for International Student Services, under general direction, assists the Executive Director in all aspects of departmental operations for International Student Programs.

    This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.

    Responsibilities:
    • Interpret and advise international students, deans, faculty, and staff on F-1 immigration regulations. Serves as an international student advisor. Advise prospective students on immigration regulations and university procedures. Advisement through email, telephone, and website. Review admissions documents for I-20 issuance to new international students. Review admission application, English Proficiency, and Financial documents that attest to proof of financial responsibility. Assure that all biographical information is available to update students' records.
    • Serve as the University's (PDSO) Principal Designated School Official in the government's (SEVIS) Student and Exchange Visitors Information System. Direct all aspects of the International Student Services Office. Responsible for preparing and applying for the University's re-certification (approval to have international students attend the university) of the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System every two years. Review and update all F-1 student records in SEVIS for review/approval. Update Form I-17 with updates to academic programs, class start dates, DSOs, and all pertinent information related to the university's request for approval. Assign the University's DSOs' Designated School Officials and DSO verifications for SEVIS. Ensures institutional compliance with SEVIS program requirements by working with deans, provost office, faculty, staff, and students. Maintain immigration records in accordance with federal guidelines for all Prairie View A&M University F-1 students and F-2 dependents. Responsible for all PVAMU locations, including the Main Campus, College of Nursing, and Northwest Campus.
    • Train and supervise full-time (DSO) Designated School Officials and student workers. Student Advisement. All aspects of SEVIS regulations and maintenance. Issuance of Form I-20 Certificate of Eligibility, Full Course Waiver, Co-Enrollment Program, Program Extension, shipment of I-20 documents, foreign currency conversion, regulations research, and best practices. Train and co-supervise the administrative associate, supervise the planning and implementation of Student Programming activities to support international students, and Co-supervise the management of Terra Dotta software. Plan and lead the New Student Orientation and Welcome Ceremony for international students. In consultation with SIO, hire staff for vacant positions in International Student Services and supervise all International Services Activities.
    • Participate in office planning processes to meet the needs of the department. In the absence of the SIO, make decisions and keep the SIO up to date on matters related to international student services. Contribute to institutional activities that support the university community by participating in all international student programming such as graduation, welcome and sash ceremonies, and encourage international student participation in the Peace Corps Preparatory Program. Plan, develop and conduct new international student orientation and check-in. Work with and arrange all details with enrollment management, campus partners, and student assistants. Plan, develop and conduct Optional Practical Training workshops for international students. Serve as liaison to government officials including the Homeland Security Field Representative, ICE Agents, Counter Terrorism Agents, SEVP Representatives, and SEVIS Helpdesk Representatives. Update internal forms, immigration information, policies and procedures for the website, department and international student services. Conduct performance evaluations on the (DSO) Designated School Officer and direct reports. Assist with maintaining the International student services Web page.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Required Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • Eight years of related experience in higher education in a field related to international student advising.
    • Experience with US immigration policies and the duties of DSO/PDSO as described in the job duties.
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
