    CHILD FIND SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

    (Limited Term Appointment- Year round calendar assignment)

    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

    Under general direction of the Lead Psychologist and the Special Education Administrator over Child Find, a Child Find School Psychologist will be assigned to an evaluation team and will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • School Psychologists provide leadership in initiating and facilitating constructive change in accordance with best practices by providing services as noted below.
    Planning and Preparation
    • Administer appropriate evaluations that enable eligibility teams to determine initial special education eligibility
    • Adhere to timelines consistent with federal and state regulations regarding consent, and eligibility.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Multi-disciplinary report development and familiarity with the online IEP system and electronic record system
    • Utilize a strong time management system to ensure quality educational records are created in a timely manner
    • Develop coherent, individualized, and appropriate Multi-disciplinary reports aligned with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) requirements
    Evaluation Environment Practices

    • Utilizes discussion and questioning techniques that will enable the team to properly evaluate the student.
    • Embeds assessment through the use of play-based assessment practices.
    • Coordinates effectively with other service staff in conducting a comprehensive evaluation.
      • Collaborates with teachers, parents, and administrators to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems to promote a safe and supportive learning environment.
      • Helps others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.
      • Strengthens working relationships between educators, parents, and community services.
      • Facilitates the collaboration between regular education and special education.
    • Provides support to school staff on procedures and professional topics.
    Professional Responsibilities
    • Maintains accurate records as mandated by state and federal guidelines within established timelines.
    • Works collaboratively as part of an education/assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating individual objectives for assigned students.
    • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity and ethical conduct.
    • Supports, communicates, and works professionally with administrators, staff and community and follows all protocols consistent with the WCSD's procedures.
    • Demonstrates professionalism and high-level communicative skills with community stakeholders
    • Makes a focused effort to promote meaningful participation of parents in the IEP process.
    • Participates in a professional community.
    • Participates in other job-related duties and activities related to the position as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience: Any combination of education/experience that could likely provide the required knowledge in qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

    Education: Master's or Ed.S. in a field that meets Nevada state requirements for obtaining a Nevada School Psychologist certificate.

    and

    Experience: A minimum of 2 (two) years working with elementary or preschool age students is desirable.

    Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a Nevada School Psychologist Certificate by time of placement. Possession of a Nevada School Psychologist License is required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • D or Psy.D is desirable.
    • Fluency in speaking, reading and writing Spanish is preferred.
    • Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).

    • Staying in compliance with current best practices based on professional literature, resources and/or professional organizations.
    • Current professional standards and ethics.

    • Implement federal, state, and district guidelines, policies and procedures relating to providing psycho-educational services.
    • Knowledge of child development and psychopathology in order to develop and implement prevention and intervention programs for students with a wide range of needs and disorders.
    • Knowledge of family influences that affect students' wellness, learning, achievement, and be able to form partnerships between parents, educators, and the community.
    • Current literature on various aspects of education and child development in order to translate research into practice, and understand research design and statistics in sufficient depth to conduct investigations relevant to their own work.
    • Ability to define current problem areas, strengths, and needs (at the individual, group, and systems level) through assessment, and measure the effects of the decisions that result from the problem solving process.
    • Ability to listen well, participate in discussions, convey information and work together with others at an individual, group and systems level.
    • Develop challenging but achievable cognitive and academic goals for all students.
    • Provide information about ways in which students can achieve these goals, and monitor student progress towards these goals.
    • Aware of, appreciate, and work with individuals and groups with a variety of strengths and needs from a variety of racial, cultural, ethnic, experiential, and linguistic backgrounds.
    • Ability to understand the school as a system and work with individuals and groups to facilitate structure and policies that create and maintain schools as safe, caring and inviting places for members of the school community.
    • Responsibility for developing as professionals and practice in ways that meet all appropriate ethical, professional, and legal standards to enhance the quality of services, and to protect the rights of all parties.

    Salary

    Salary Range: $73,039

    Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by the Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

    The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

    New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
