    Job Description

    The Opportunity:

    The College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona invites applications for a visiting faculty position in the Applied Aviation Sciences Department commencing August 2024 in the field of geospatial sciences. The department is interested in candidates who can co-lead the existing undergraduate GIS and remote sensing certificate.

    Candidates with prior teaching experience and a broad background in geospatial sciences are invited to apply. We especially encourage applications from candidates with hands-on teaching experience in GIS, remote sensing, geography, or a related field. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty with expertise in applied meteorology, uncrewed aircraft systems, air traffic management, and geography, and will be expected to teach the equivalent of four 3-credit hour courses per semester at the undergraduate level.

    The candidate will mentor undergraduate research projects. Current research interests within the department include the North American Monsoon, optical/microwave satellite and airborne remote sensing and terrestrial LiDAR applications with uncrewed aircraft. The curriculum for the GIS and remote sensing certificate is currently part of the UAS degree program and published at .

    Applicants should be able to demonstrate ability to teach and develop hands-on GIS and remote sensing laboratory courses using state-of-the-art GIS software. The successful candidate must be able to inspire students from different programs such as uncrewed aircraft systems, applied meteorology, biology and the global security and intelligence community.

    Qualifications

    A Ph.D. degree in geospatial sciences or an equivalent field is preferred.
