    Position Summary

    The Community Education Coordinator will lead the logistics planning for trainings, workshops, and camps; engaging priority communities to determine the needs and next steps. The Community Education Coordinator will complete follow-up and evaluation after trainings/events are concluded. They will work directly with the Training Development Team to coordinate with partners, develop learning resources, and carry out Native Movement Community Education Program's goals and objectives.

    Essential Job Functions
    1. Work on the Community Education team to meet project goals as well as working with other Native Movement teams (Action and Advocacy, Communications, Movement Infrastructure);

      • Coordinate and implement camps and community knowledge sharing events;

      • Work with our Community Education team to help shape appropriate documents for best functioning of teamwork and programmatic goals;

      • Meet with community partners to prep the training team and prepare appropriate knowledge sharing resources/opportunities;

      • Work with the Community Education team to incorporate evaluation and feedback into future trainings;

      • Support Native Movement in deepening online learning resources (recording and launching online learning materials);

      • Support the team in the implementation of cohorts, workshops, and camp programs;

      • Additional responsibilities to be identified as the program evolves.

    This position reports directly to the Community Education Director. No supervision exercised.

    Location

    This position must be based in Alaska, and ideally located in Anchorage. Work in office is highly preferred with the potential of remote work upon approval.

    Work Environment and Demands of the Role

    Generally, the office environment is calm, with some days of higher activity due to organizational events. Some noise from people in the office is expected, and may increase during events. We are a family-friendly workplace, so children of all ages may be present at any time. Dogs are allowed in the office, so there may be occasional barking and dogs walking throughout the building. This position may require travel within the state for retreats and team building activities. Possibility of a flexible schedule within agreed guidelines.

    The physical demands of this position require the ability to occasionally remain in a stationary position, move or traverse throughout an office and event spaces, both indoors and outdoors. Occasionally, you must be able to transport objects through the office or event space for various needs, up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Must be able to commute to and from office and event locations. Requires the ability to ascend a flight of stairs, several times a day. Additionally, the employee must be able to exchange information and ideas so that others will understand, receive and understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, and exercise independent judgment.

    Job qualifications:
    1. Demonstrated knowledge and relevant experience in organizing trainings or events, community engagement, and grassroots organizing;

      • Proven history of engaging with and positively impacting diverse communities;

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

      • Strong time-management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines;

      • Ability to work extremely well as part of a team;

      • Adept with social media and web-based communication tools (Trello, Zoom, Slack, Excel);

      • Proven ability to keep information organized.
    1. Lived experience engaging and/or organizing within Alaska Native/Indigenous communities both rural and urban (i.e. cultural practices, potlatches, ceremony), and having a deep understandings of Alaska Native ways of life preferred
    1. Experience in creating or hosting train-the-trainers workshops preferred.

      • Knowledge of popular education theory preferred but not required.

    Additional Job Information

    This position requires regular attendance in accordance with the established schedule as this is the most common time to conduct work with community members, vendors and other staff. Some work outside of regular hours may be required. Employees must also possess the following abilities:
