    Job Summary:



    The Circulation Manager & Service Desk Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the library's circulation services and service desk. This position plans, organizes and coordinates the activities of the circulation services desk team and establishes unit goals and priorities. The manager provides daily supervision of employees in the work unit by assigning tasks, monitoring progress and workflow, checking work outcomes for timeliness and correctness, establishing work standards, scheduling shifts, signing leave requests and approving work hours. Provides direct managerial responsibility for and exercises significant independent judgment over the daily supervision of onsite library services.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintains expert working knowledge to perform all major functions and workflows related to the library's service desk and circulation services.
    • Maintains knowledge of the circulation system including training of coworkers and troubleshooting problems.
    • Manages long overdue and lost materials. Assesses and collects fines. Manages library notices. Interprets library policy and procedures for library staff and customers.
    • Partners with others in the library to oversee support of the library's circulating technology items such as laptops and wifi hotspots. This includes maintenance and inventory of circulating technology items, keeping contracts with vendors up to date, and working with library patrons to get technology items returned in a timely manner.
    • Acts as approving manager of requests for library meeting rooms via the campus' Event Management System (EMS). Receives, reviews and approves/denies room requests. Manages conflicts and problems with rooms reservations with a high level of customer service. Trains staff to assist with EMS duties.
    • Analyze and answer questions from library patrons in person and via the library's virtual AskUs service portal that includes chat and email for a minimum of six hours per week. Instruct customers on the use of the library's discovery tools including the library catalog, website, article databases, research guides, and clinical tools. Troubleshoot patron requests for help related to remote access of library resources including full text journal articles, ebooks, and databases.
    • Special projects as assigned. This position will often serve as leader over project teams in the department. Position participates in library-wide planning via interdepartmental ad-hoc teams and/or standing library committees.


    Work Location:



    Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 4 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
      • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year-for-year not for the specific experience.
    • Two years of experience in a library, or directly related position in a professional setting.

    Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Supervisory experience to handle group dynamics, promote teamwork, performance management and evaluation.
    • Emotional intelligence to handle conflict management.
    • Experience in customer services and managing customer services by phone, email and online and face to face service.
    • Experience with library circulation systems and general practices in library public services.
    • Experience in a computer lab environment assisting users with equipment and software troubleshooting.
    • Experience with managing leave time across multiple staff and coordinating schedules for covering customer services desk and other daily/weekly task routines of a team.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
    • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds (i.e. working with internal and external contacts, such as students, staff, faculty, vendors, or publishers).
    • Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Problem solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and project and meet multiple deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to evaluate, recommend, and implement operational workflows and procedures that align with new trends in librarianship and local considerations.
    • Excellent communication skills for explaining policy and procedures.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Calendar
    • Interest in web technologies and ability to research software applications libraries can use to automate services and functions.
    • Research skills and familiarity with library and web search tools to assist users with finding information.
    • Flexibility in schedule and ability to work different shifts to accommodate business and training needs.
    • Flexible and reasonable in application of rules and policies and knowing when to give attention to customer satisfaction versus knowing when to draw the line and politely say 'no' enforcing core service or conduct expectations.

    Anticipated Pay Range:



    The starting salary for this position has been established as $56,031- $69,478.

    The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
