    Job Posting: Development Coordinator

    Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Service (IRIS) is a program of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and the Southern California-based affiliate office of Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM). IRIS offers refugee resettlement assistance, intensive case management, and immigration legal services to the low-income refugee and immigrant community in greater Los Angeles. We seek to provide gracious welcome as well as tangible tools and connections to help new arrivals achieve self-sufficiency in the United States. As a small nonprofit (approximately 25 full-time staff), we strive to accompany clients with a personal touch, enhance their quality of life, expand community awareness of client needs, develop partnerships with other organizations, and advocate on the local, state, national, and international levels for refugee and immigrant needs and rights.

    Overview

    IRIS seeks to hire a Development Coordinator (our first) as we expand and reorganize as an independent non-profit after nearly 20 years as a successful, fiscally sponsored agency. This position requires a seasoned, confident, and humble professional who thrives in a thoroughly cross-cultural environment and measures her/his/their success by helping others to achieve their own.

    The Development Coordinator, in coordination with the Manager, Budgets and Grants, and the Executive Director, will plan, manage, and coordinate IRISs development efforts including building new strategies for expanded funding; identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors; and overseeing writing proposals and reports with accompanying budgets, thank you letters and other correspondence, planning events, soliciting corporate donations for events, and ensuring all necessary documents for grants management and audit purposes.

    This position reports jointly to the IRIS Manager, Budgets and Grants, and the Executive Director.

    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Working with the IRIS Manager, Budgets and Grants, and the Executive Director, to raise an annual budget of approximately $500,000 to supplement the organizations existing funding streams;
    • Develop a pipeline of prospects for cultivation and solicitation and arrange meetings for the IRIS Manager, Budgets and Grants, and the Executive Director self with prospects.
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with select corporate & foundation staff, and individual donors.
    • Maintain portfolios of fundraising prospects and donors.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree or equivalent life experience
    • Experience as a development professional or translatable experience
    • Motivated and able to work independently, as well as with a team
    • Willingness to take initiative
    • Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task, manage concurrent processes/projects, and focus on the small but important details in all projects while keeping the bigger picture in mind
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including grant writing
    • Excellent office and computer skills.
    • Proficient in Word, Excel and experience working with a fundraising database
    • Able to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with colleagues, donors, volunteers and the public
    • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated belief in IRISs mission and values

    Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000

    Ideally, we seek to fill this role as a full-time, exempt position. We will also consider filling the position on a contract, part-time, or other flexible work arrangement basis.
