    Job Summary:


    Under the direction of the assigned Director and Gifted Coordinator, plans, implements and evaluates services and gifted enrichment for students identified as gifted.

    Helps students identify goals and make appropriate choices. Encourages parental involvement. The teacher also plans work assignments, provides instructions and monitors assigned staff and volunteers.


    Primary Duties:

    • Works with the gifted coordinator to refine program goals, reviews criteria for student participation, plans/evaluates programming
    • Collaborates with staff to determine the most effective approach for each student (e.g., resource room, inclusion, pull-out, etc.)
    • Prepares the assigned classroom. Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
    • Promotes the proper use and care of school property
    • Teaches scheduled classes. Documents teaching performance objectives. Creates effective learning experiences. Ensures that lesson plans align with the adopted curriculum
    • Submits written lesson plans according to district procedures. Provides prompt notification of absences. Ensures that teaching materials, class lists and classroom procedures are readily available for substitutes
    • Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code
    • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives
    • Serves as a liaison to parents. Helps resolve problems. Directs parents to supplemental resources within the community
    • Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information. Plans student interventions. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles
    • Researches and prepares program materials for gifted students
    • Provides guidance, communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress. Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving and creativity skills
    • Collaborates with other teachers. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance the educational process
    • Helps student take full advantage of the learning environment (e.g., access and proximity to activities, use of adaptive equipment, etc.)
    • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time
    • Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information
    • Evaluates student achievements/performances and assigns grades. Prepares progress reports. Consults with parents as needed (e.g., phone calls, notes, meeting, etc.)
    • Shares information with teachers about the involvement of their students in the gifted program.
    • Uses support personnel to address student concerns (e.g., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, family/peer relations, etc.)
    • Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Does not leave student unsupervised
    • Watches for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g., profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.). Intervenes and/or reports concerns immediately
    • Makes a referral for student assistance/intervention when a need is indicated. Meets mandated deadlines for required paperwork. Works with team members to reach a consensus on a plan for students requiring assistance
    • Helps prepare and implement a Written Education Plan (WEP for classroom students meeting eligibility requirements
    • Supports an inclusive educational environment. Provides opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in appropriate peer group activities
    • Supervises non-classroom activities when assigned
    • Participates in parent conferences, open-houses and other required activities
    • Supports parent organizations and encourages student activities as time permits
    • Participate sin staff meetings and professional growth opportunities
    • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct
    • Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others
    • Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment
    • Organizes tasks and manages time effectively
    • Skillfully manages individual, group and organizational interactions
    • Effectively uses verbal, nonverbal writing and listening skills
    • Averts problem situations and intervenes to resolve conflict
    • Exhibits consistency, resourcefulness and resilience
    • Exercises self-control and perseverance when dealing with students
    • Completes paperwork accurately. Verifies and correctly enters data
    • Complies with state model policies and procedures for the education of students identified as gifted
    • Cooperates and works well with others
    • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
    • Promotes a favorable image of the ESC. Encourages community partnerships that enhance ESC programs and services
    • Upholds governing board policies and follows administrative procedures
    • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Valid Ohio teacher's license/certificate and endorsement in gifted education
    • Valid Ohio Driver's license
    • Prior teaching experience helpful
    • Knowledgeable of Ohio education standards
    • Knowledgeable of school/campus learning resources
    • Strong relationship building, communication and presentation skills with school age children & parents/guardians. Good interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence
    • Ability to use relational techniques and strategies to elicit positive behavior & compliance from students
    • The employee shall remain free of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substances in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the ESC
    • May require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, CPI and/or behavioral management training or other training as needed
    • Ability to efficiently multi-task on a daily basis
    • Knowledgeable of community resources
    • Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Proficiency with web-based applications (i.e., Google Docs, ODE website, social media, etc.) and NCOESC databases
    • Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records

    Clearances:
    Criminal justice fingerprint/background (FBI/BCI), and public health clearances.


    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

    • Performance of duties requires constant talking, hearing, engagement in repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling.
    • Performance of primary duties takes place in a school environment with constant exposure to noise. Occasional exposure to hazards. Frequent light to medium physical effort required.
