    Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement & Alumni Engagement, the Associate Vice President of Philanthropy partners with the Vice President to provide strategic leadership, direction and management for philanthropy programs and initiatives.

    The Associate Vice President of Philanthropy is a key member of the Advancement & Alumni Engagement leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the design/planning, implementation and evaluation of annual, capital and comprehensive fund raising campaigns.

    The Associate Vice President of Philanthropy leads and provides direction to the Philanthropy team which includes, Directors of Development, Major Gifts Officers, the Director of Annual Giving and the Director of Prospect Research.


    In addition to their leadership and supervisory role, the Associate Vice President personally manages a major gift portfolio of approximately 50-75 major and principal gift prospects and is responsible for generating five, six and seven figure gift revenue in accordance with annual goals and metrics.


    PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
    Provides leadership and direction to the Philanthropy team.

    In conjunction with the Vice President, sets annual, measurable performance fundraising goals for each member of the team and schedules regular meetings with staff to ensure performance is tracking to goal.

    Provides strategic consultation across the team in refining donor strategy, developing relevant gift proposals and building stewardship plans in service to optimizing gift revenue from each team member's portfolio.

    Provides direction to the Director of Prospect Research to ensure that portfolios grow and mature with the goal of increasing major gift revenue.

    Provides strategic leadership to the Director of Annual Giving, coordinating with Philanthropy team to optimize pipeline development and strategic moves.

    Provides annual performance reviews to the members of the Philanthropy team.

    Personally manages a major and principal gift portfolio of approximately 50-75 donors from discovery through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

    Responsible for meeting a significant annual revenue goal that is developed in conjunction with the Vice President of Advancement & Alumni Engagement.

    Develops and presents major and principal gift proposals to donors, coordinating as necessary with University leadership. Includes extensive travel throughout Minnesota as well as regular national travel.


    Supervise department personnel, including but not limited to hiring, coaching and developing, promoting, rewarding, assigning and reviewing of work, directing work, approving transfers, disciplining, discharging and adjusting grievances to ensure the department processes flow smoothly; collective bargaining agreements and Minnesota State policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced, all applicable laws and regulations are implemented and enforced, and all employees and applicants receive equitable treatment.

    They will also develop in consultation with the Senior Director of Advancement Services training and evaluation processes in both written and electronic form for the proper training of Advancement Services staff.

    This position will monitor and evaluate Philanthropy staff to assure performance objectives are being met.

    Required Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications


    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Minimum seven years of experience in fundraising
    • 3+ years in major gifts with demonstrable success in raising gifts of $100,000 or more
    • Evidence of demonstrated ability to work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.

    • Supervisory experience, preferably in the area of major gifts
    • Demonstrated career progression in individual major gifts fundraising/fundraising management experience in higher education
