    POSITION TITLE:
    Respiratory Therapy Adjunct


    DEPARTMENT:
    College of Health Sciences


    POSITION STATUS:
    Adjunct


    POSITION REPORTS TO:
    Program Director of Respiratory Therapy


    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under the direction of the Program Director of Respiratory Therapy, adjunct faculty receive a contract or letter stating adjunct employment with a primary responsibility in teaching.

    Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings or laboratories in coordination with established course and program objectives.

    Serving University of Saint Francis (USF) students and the USF community is paramount.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
    Teaching & Related Activities

    The primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching. For details on classroom and clinical responsibilities - See USF Faculty Handbook.


    Faculty are expected to:

    • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map
    • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets required contact hours
    • Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice
    • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review
    • Submit reports and requests for information promptly
    • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession
    • Teach students using appropriate methodologies to facilitate student classroom and/or clinical learning experiences
    • Create an effective learning environment for students
    • Effectively communicate with students
    • Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students
    • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students' progress
    • Evaluate student clinical, laboratory and classroom performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success
    • Propose plans to improve students' performance
    • Maintain appropriate records such as clinical evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress
    Assignments may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Program Director.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education


    • Minimum of a master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution
    • Graduate of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program or related field
    Licensure/Certification


    • Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license in Respiratory Therapy or credentials and state license within a related field
    Experience


    • One to two year's teaching or training experience preferred, experience in higher education preferred
    • Two to three year's professional experience within the field preferred
    • Specific programs may have further qualifications to comply with accreditation requirements
    • Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation technique and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting.
    • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives.
    • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.
    Requirements for all College of Health Sciences faculty engaged in clinical instruction:


    • Current TB testing
    • Current CPR certification
    • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization
    • Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities
    Knowledge and Skills


    • Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings
    • Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations
    • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
    • Minimum of three years' experience in the discipline
    • Prior teaching experience in clinical or classroom setting preferred
