Senior Project Manager, Global Health - Cambridge, United States - Eisai

    Default job background
    Description

At Eisai, satisfying unmet medical needs and increasing the benefits healthcare provides to patients, their families, and caregivers is Eisai's human health care (hhc) mission. We're a growing pharmaceutical company that is breaking through in neurology and oncology, with a strong emphasis on research and development. Our history includes the development of many innovative medicines, notably the discovery of the world's most widely-used treatment for Alzheimer's disease. As we continue to expand, we are seeking highly-motivated individuals who want to work in a fast-paced environment and make a difference. If this is your profile, we want to hear from you.

Eisai's global health team seeks a motivated and dynamic project manager for its portfolio of programs developing new medicines for diseases with devastating burdens in the developing world. These efforts are focused on malaria, tuberculosis and the neglected tropical diseases (such as lymphatic filariasis, Chagas disease and leishmaniasis), and are conducted in collaboration with prominent academic and non-profit organizations.

Highlights from the late-stage portfolio include a pivotal clinical trial in Sudan for a new mycetoma therapy, and a Phase II clinical trial in the Peruvian Amazon for a new malaria medicine. Innovative early-stage programs include pioneering advanced therapeutic modalities, and harnessing state-of-the-art data science techniques to accelerate drug discovery. These efforts are complemented by initiatives to build African R&D capabilities and develop innovative finance models in global health.

The Senior Project Manager will be a key member of the global health team, responsible for smooth functioning of multiple drug development projects focused on malaria, tuberculosis and the neglected tropical diseases. This is a varied and dynamic position that spans project operations and planning, budgeting, grant management and contracting. The Senior Project Manager will interface with a range of internal stakeholders, including several scientific groups (chemistry, safety, DMPK, CMC), legal and finance, as well as external collaboration partners and grant agencies in the US and internationally.

    Key responsibilities:

*Manage planning and operations for a portfolio of projects: Take responsibility for cohesive progress towards project goals by the multidisciplinary team. Coordinate scientific decision-making and (re)design of project plans. Map and monitor timelines; identify and resolve barriers to success. Facilitate productive collaboration with external partners as a primary point-of-contact. Organize regular project meetings and manage data sharing, including collaborative tools (e.g. SharePoint).

*Manage project budgets: Develop, track and update project budgets in coordination with Eisai functional groups and external partners. Ensure timely invoicing and payments for collaboration partners, funding organizations and CROs.

*Manage preparation of grant proposals (including development of project plans, budget and timelines) together with internal and external team members. Execute progress reporting and communications with funding organizations.

*Manage contracting with collaborators and CROs in conjunction with legal and scientific colleagues, including grant agreements, collaboration agreements, work orders, CDAs and MTAs.

*Contribute to Eisai global health strategy and development, drawing on scientific and operational expertise. Participate in identification and evaluation of new collaboration and project opportunities. Support strategic initiatives such as Africa R&D capacity building and development of innovative financing models.

*Take initiative to identify and address gaps and implement solutions to improve workflows and project management.

    Qualifications and Skills

Advanced degree (e.g. Ph.D.) in the infectious disease field. Research experience in tropical diseases preferred.

*At least 3-5 years' experience in research project management or similar role in biotech/pharma or research institution/medical center, preferably in therapeutic development.

*Excellent project management skills, including organization, attention to detail and a collaborative approach; comfortable managing research goals and scientific decision-making.

*High proficiency in budget planning and management with experience handling complex (multimillion-dollar) budgets.

*Substantial prior experience with grant preparation and management, including proposal development, project initiation and reporting.

*Expertise in the key elements of drug development and familiarity with the organization and processes of biotech/pharma companies.

*Significant experience working with external organizations, including collaboration partners (academics and non-profits) and CROs. Experience working with partners in low-and-middle income countries strongly preferred.

*Strong communication skills; able to communicate effectively across a range of disciplines and organizations to productively address project needs.

*Familiarity with project management tools such as SharePoint & SmartSheets.

*Able to manage competing demands and shifting priorities while working across multiple projects.

*Takes initiative and responsibility for action, and a resourceful problem-solver.

*Excellent judgement and ability to handle sensitive information.

*Values diversity and compassion, and embraces a multicultural environment.

*Demonstrable passion for global health and motivated to contribute to improving healthcare outcomes in neglected populations.
