    Duties

    As a building repair worker with the Bureau of Reclamation, Central California Area Office, your duties might include:

  • Constructing, altering, and repairing items such as building foundations, framework, roofing, siding, windows and doors.
  • Making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components.
  • Building and installing customized cabinetry, counters, bookcases, and/or work platforms.
  • Performing general maintenance and repair on existing utilities, such as compressed air systems, ventilation systems, water closets, water heaters, and related valves and pumps.
  • Preparing surfaces for coating and applying premixed materials and basic brushing and spraying techniques to surfaces related to civil maintenance.
  • Using and maintaining a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination required by a licensed physician, certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Physical Effort: Position duties require the ability to safely and efficiently perform the physical requirements of the job. Routinely lifts and carries heavy loads weighing up to 50 pounds, and loads weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance from coworkers or equipment (e.g., hand truck). The nature of work requires physical exertion such as standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, crawling, kneeling, squatting, and climbing scaffolding and ladders in the performance of duties.
  • Working Conditions: Position duties require the ability to safely and efficiently work alone and with others. Work may be performed both indoors and outside. Some work is performed within confined spaces. Work is performed on or around moving equipment and energized sources. May be required to travel to remote locations to perform maintenance on facilities. May be exposed to irritation or discomfort from, dust, heat, noise, fumes, and vapors. Works on hard, damp floors, or ground. Wears personal protective equipment and is subject to wearing a respirator. May be required to wear an air sampling monitor while performing specified duties.

    Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.
