    SUMMARY


    The individual in this position is responsible for working with project management teams to provide management, coordination and review of mechanical design performed by engineering consultants working on the projects.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Manage engineering consultants, external to the project, that are responsible for all facets of mechanical design on the project.


    Coordinate all project activities concerned with mechanical engineering design and coordinate the interface of mechanical work with other related projects.

    Monitor mechanical engineering design work for conformance to established project scopes, schedules, budgets, and procedures.


    Review mechanical design for compliance with accepted engineering principles; applicable authority-having-jurisdiction codes, standards, and guidelines; city or state contract requirements; and related specifications.

    Provide comments regarding project scope, design principles, material selection and availability, constructability, code and/or regulatory agency issues, lead time for procurement of materials and systems, cost estimates, value engineering, etc.


    Assist the project lead with the preparation and review of cost estimates relative to mechanical work, during the various phases of design, and lead the efforts to reconcile any estimating discrepancies with the design consultant teams.


    Evaluate and make recommendations to the project lead, relative to mechanical engineering design; including but not limited to design drawings and specifications, design changes and design document releases.


    Advise the project lead of project conditions that could hinder project progress, relative to mechanical work, and make recommendations for corrective actions.

    Prepare interim and project completion reports related to mechanical engineering design.

    Attend and actively participate in project meetings to inform the owner/client of program activities related to mechanical engineering design.


    Schedule and facilitate periodic and special meetings, at the project level, to coordinate and report project status related to mechanical engineering design.

    Assist the project lead in development of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), project organization and program/project responsibility matrix.

    Ensure production of reports in accord with the management plan and the needs of all members of the PM team related to mechanical engineering design.


    Ensures input and maintenance of all program management budget and cost data and the production of projections and trend analyses from all logs and schedules relative to mechanical engineering design.


    Assist with the input and maintenance of program management data in all document control, budget, and cost logs relative to mechanical engineering design.

    Daily review all program management logs to identify items, relative to mechanical engineering design, that require immediate action. Expedite answers and actions required through direct daily contact with the responsible parties. Notify the relevant manager of actions or answers required which are not forthcoming on a timely basis.

    Assist with the production of reports.

    Assist in the review of design consultant invoices.

    Review construction progress, relative to mechanical work, on a periodic basis.

    Investigate design and construction problems relative to mechanical work and follow-up on their resolution.


    Develop skills for future advancement, maintain a professional and productive work atmosphere, promote company loyalty, and generate new ideas for improving services.

    Perform work in accordance with applicable Policies & Procedures.

    Perform work in a safe manner and actively encourage others to comply with safety rules and regulations.


    Qualifications:


    Must have a bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university or a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design.

    Experience in computer software applications that include Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, spreadsheet preparation, word processing and database applications.

    Skills and Competencies required to perform tasks:


    Diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices and the ability to apply that knowledge to a broad variety of assignments and related tasks.

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals, and governmental regulations.

    Ability to write reports, business correspondences, and procedure manuals.

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of mangers, clients, customers, and the public.

    Ability to make authoritative decisions and recommendations having an important impact on activities of the company.

    Ability to persuade and negotiate critical issues.

    Ability to anticipate and resolve problematic issues.

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


    Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in mathematical or diagrammatic form and to deal with abstract and conceptual variables.

    Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive company information.

    Able to professionally interact with owners, architects, engineer, project managers, and executives.

    Assist other team members as needed to meet the team's goals.

    Work more than a 40-hour work week may be required.

    Must be able to physically operate a computer, including keyboard and mouse.

    Must be able to physically access working areas of a construction project site.

    Must be able to travel to project sites as needed to perform essential duties.


    Must be able to travel to meet with management, clients, vendors, partners, or associations; or to attend conferences or training, as needed to perform essential duties.

    Assignments may span multiple projects at multiple locations.

    Relevant Knowledge Base:
    Knowledge of organizational structure of company.

    Principles of project management and supervision.

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Suites software; specifically, Word, Excel, and Outlook.


    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
