    Norfolk, Virginia is a vibrant and urban waterfront city. As part of the City of Norfolk's Public Works Department, we are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Architecture (Architect II) to join our team.

    This role will be responsible for managing new building projects and facility renovations in the Architecture Bureau. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and project management skills, with experience in leading design and construction projects from concept to completion.

    About the Position

    • Manage and lead the design process by planning schedules and budgets, implementing approved construction programs, coordinating design work with other city departments and outside agencies, and community representatives approving drawings and specifications prepared by consultants for large construction projects.
    • Manage construction document preparation by preparing drawings and specifications for bidding and construction purposes, monitoring the production of architectural and engineering drawings and calculating cost estimates.
    • Manage contracts by procuring services of architectural, engineering and contracting firms; negotiating, preparing and managing consultant and contractor contracts, reviewing and approving invoices for design services, preparing amendments to contracts and monitoring consultants and contractors for adherence to the schedule and budget.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in architecture or a closely related field.
    • Five years' experience in architecture/interior design or related engineering or construction field, preferably with experience in managing large, complex construction projects.
    • Professional licensure or certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or ability to receive reciprocity) in engineering, architecture, interior design, or related technical field is required.

    Benefits

    The City of Norfolk offers a competitive salary range of $68,675.00 - $111,968.00 Annually, plus benefits such as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer-paid pension plan, basic life insurance, and more. This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.
